I spilled a lot of oil on my hands/arms when I removed the old oil filter, so I had zero grip when tightening the new oil filter. So, I resorted to an oil filter wrench to tighten it. Bad mistake. Before I realized it, I put a 1/4" deep crimp on one section of the filter at the closed end. Is this anything to be worried about, or is it not going to affect the filter's job?

 

Maybe I am just reading the post right, but what is stopping you from just putting a new filter on there?

 

it should be fine...having taken apart several filters...the filter media needs quite a hit to be breached.

 

I don't have another filter on-hand.

 

Go buy one...it's only $5.

You wouldn't want to risk losing oil while you're at redline.
