Default Just got back from racing the shoebox, not to happy not to sad

Ok guys just got back for the first time racing the shoebox with the turbo. "I only raced 2 times in my life".

Setup

90 Civic DX, body kit "heavy", power steering "sucks up hp" removed everything from the trunk and passenger seat and rear seat. Used 16" Rotas with 205/45/16 Kuhmo tires. ZC with a Greddy turbo running 8 pounds with a Zdyne Gold ECU "Untuned, just tuned with wideband on the street" High flow Cat, DC exhaust. Si Trans. DSM SMIC

Weather

mid 70's

1st run

Horrible start slid like I was on ice. 4th Gear not going in ran a 16.9@79 mph

2nd run

put tire pressure down to 28 "was on 32-34", 4th gear again being a bitch, ran a 15.9@86mph

3rd run

launched at 3k Rpms 4th gear again a issue, ran a 15.4@83mph

4th run

launched 3k, 4th gear again a issue but not as bad, the total time slip for 4th run....

r/t .781
60" 2.427
330 6.537
1/8 10.010
mph 72.03
1000 12.904
1/4 15.439
mph 87.73

I think I have a issue with my tranny. Im considering going to a DX tranny from what I am told you can hold 3rd gear down the 1/4. My MPH is horrible "saw a few other cars run a 15.4@92 mph!

Suggestions help anything is appreciated.

My goal is a 14 sec slip, next time I race Ill probabaly put on the 15" Teg wheels and get the car tuned on a dyno, and possibly a DX trans.

Help! haha

it depends on what your goin for but from what ive read the si tranny is the best over all tranny if your looking for daily driving...now if all you want is 1/4 mile the zc is the best overall the gears in a zc are stacked or stay in your power band also they have an equal length shaft configuration whick is supposed to help eliminate toqure steer...but if your willing to go the extra mile a zc tranny with a si final drive is supposed to be the best for dd and strip...guys help me out if I missed this or if I've been informed wrong

Damn thats depressing.. I was definately hoping to see some better times than that at 8lbs.. lol not to make you feel bad, but I think most I/E ZCs can run quicker than a 15.4.

Im going turbo ZC.. hoping for 13s

Yeah, if your running stock internals boosting 8lbs on the ZC, you should be sitting low 14ish. Your trap speeds aren't high enough to get too much quicker than low 15's. Have you done a compression test? Any tuning?

u either need a hell lot more practice
or u having bad traction problems off the line

judging from ur 60 foot wich its 2.4 i say u letting go a lil hard and u getting no traction!

i say lower the tire pressure to about 20 psi, and launch right before full spool.... wich it might be arounf 3k rpms...
once u get off the line u can just go .....

myself just did my best time last night...
i ran a 15.1 @ 88 mph with my Z6... and had a 2.21 60 foot... just with my GSR wheels with Good years tires on them to about 25 psi... the secret its just going off the line because i was doing consistant 15.3 until i did a good luanch and did the 15.1..

its the driver bc last night there was a B16A2 CRX running 15.8, a ZC CRX running no better than 16.0, and even GSR's running 15.7's.... even a RSX T-S that i lower his tires to 23 psi and even didnt ran better than 15.9... problems are in launch and driver...

with the amount of power u putting down u should be into lower 14's...just keep practicing and remember to be one with ur car!

Thanks for the info guys. When Im launching at 3K Im not even hitting boost, So right there is probably my problem. Maybe I should try 3 1/2, 4k. From watching my vids of last night I see te car go really slow off the line, then pulls like crazy till my 4th gear problems. I ran a truck that ran a 15.0 and mid track I cought up to him and was side by side till my 4th geat got screwed up. Also raced a old muscle car that ran a 14.7 and I was reeling him in half track also.

There was another kid last night with a LS Vtec running mid 15's. And a GSR integra running 16.0. My buddys 2000 Civic Si ran a 17.0!

I should be putting down about 160-170 WHP so I should be seeing 14's. I was also thinking about taking off the power steering belt next time I race to get a few more Hp. Also use the 15" wheels.

The reason why Im not so upset is because when my car was a auto I ran a 18.4, then I swapped inthe ZC with a manual trans and ran a 16.4. Now with a turbo
I ran 15.4 so its getting faster each time. Maybe next time after some tuning a 14.4 will be mine

u making 160-170WHP......
good...
and i am putting down maybe (guesstimate) 120WHP.... and ran a trap speed of 15.1.... i think i was the fastest SOHC Civic N/A that ran last night at the track...
i say u should run 14.2 or lower with a good traction and good shifting....

At 8 psi that time sucks. But if everyone else was running slow then the track conditions were probably a factor

160-170whp should put you in the low/mid 14's no doubt

buy a zc lsd tranny from hmotorsonline.com
150 plus shipping. as far as axles go you will have to get them custom made but you will be happy with your new times with that tranny.
your def. bogging out when you launch practice more. you wanna launch under boost and feather a bit. its more complicated than that but with practice you will get the hang of it. good luck

You wont need custom axles, just DA tegs with the sheilds removed.

Those times are horrbile but since everyone else was running slow maybe the track just sucks really bad. Keep practicing and launch when in boost

You probably just need to practice a little more. You might be better off just getting some slicks. Oh yeah whats up with the tranny issue that your having? I"m not sure about turbo cars because I know they are a pain in the a$$ to launch, thats why you probably just need to practice.

You might want to do a compression test though because your traps were kind of low. Even though the people who do know you know that you baby your car, just kidding.

Im not sre whats up with the tranny, its the oddest thing I was shifting into 4th at about 7,200 and jammed it into gear and it just popped out, tried it again popped out, then the RPMS are at about 6,000 something and it went in?! GRRR! Thats why my trap speed sucks. Im sure the traps would be mid 90's if I could get into 4th.

sounds like the lil ring around the synchro its bad on that tranny...
i would open it , put a quaife, phantom grip or a new diff pin and replace that synchro while at it... tranny will last longer

Hahahaahhahahaahahahah!

Holy **** man! You matched my 15.4 time. However I had a trap speed of 98mph... I had major traction problems off the line. Damn T-25...

Sounds like you just need more practice. As you go more Im sure your time will come down a lot more. Go get that thing tuned and get some stickier tires
