After a long wait, well not that long since i was fortunate to have the buyer before back out, i picked up my SMS header at the ITR Expo, which made me want to go to the expo even more.
After the controversial luggage check in we had at PIT airport, i finally got the header home, and put it on my car.
My car is a STOCK 1998 ITR w/ approx 40k miles. Put the header on, with a carsound 2.5 inch cat, which i have been using for over 2 years now, with a custom 2.5 inch exhaust to a Spoon N1 muffer.
Went to Autolink to see what kind of gains this header would yeild and what all the hype was about...well......
Thats the graph....186whp/124tq.
here is the link to a HP Curve ONLY
http://www.we-todd-did-racing....DE%3D
Stock ITR motor, with Stock intake, Stock filter, the same one from 1998, Stock timing, Stock ecu. Everything STOCK, UNTUNED
just the header/cat/exhaust.
Car was dynoed on a Clayton Dyno, same dyno that was at Area51, now at autolink.
Went back a few days later, w/ my AEM CAI on to see if it would yeild any more power...and GUESS WHAT....peak was about 180whp
It was a little warmer outside (approx 85) when we dynoed w/ the aem, but i still lost power.
yea the graph is ugly, but cant wait to wire up my vafc, put on some cam gears and get tuned.
So for all you people who doubt Dave's (SMSP) products, which there shouldnt be, I am ANOTHER satisfied customer.
to Dave and all SMS Products
Arno
Edit: dont mind all the nonsense in the backround, i needed scratch paper

Seems to be in agreement and support of what Steve's (SGT's) been trying to say all along!!!!!!
Yet MORE reason and defense TO purchase a J's!!!

Gains look great, but would have been better if you would have dynoed it before & after the header was installed on the same day.
damn those are good numbers.......although it's impossible to dyno a CAI unless you have a dyno mounted to the back of a huge truck on a raised platform and the truck is driving 100km/hr
Damn that is nice. Man I can't wait to see how my car do on the dyno when I go to P1 before deals gap. O and with half *** stock intake (I'm waiting for my new intake).
and what does us tell that dyno sheet?! NOTHING!!!!!!!!! What was your power BEFORE the mods. When you want to compare, then do it right buddy. Go before and after on the dyno..on the SAME dyno. And what the hell is up with the liines on the plot?! Looks lots of detonation.

Nice peak power, but your curve is a little weak. Very interested to see what you're going to pull after cam/fuel tuning, I'm sure you'll pull a ton of gains in the low-midrange.
That graph does look a little wild, what's up with that? Was it just because the scale resolution was so high? I know other tuners claim to never use smoothing but then they also use a lower resolution scale so you can't see the jaggies anyway.

That dyno sheet means that he got 180+whp from header/cat/exhaust. He did dyno his car on the same exact dyno, just at different locations. This chart was done at Autolink, Autolink bought this dyno from Area51(where he had his first dyno stock at 160~)

UMMMMMM....go up a few posts and read, the car has been dynoed stock, on the same dyno. Thank you
Why is it people dont bother reading these days, they just jump to a conclusion and start the bashing
Detonation, yea you wish, maybe ther resolution is a little high did that cross your mind
And if you are going to Bash and Talk ****...DO IT RIGHT BUDDY!!!!!
SurferX:
the graph is that wild because of the resolution, but the curve is a little weak, Im sure once the car is tuned, it should make a difference.

Yeah I thought it was the resolution. Some tuners boast about how "smooth" they can make a curve when really they are just using a dinky *** resolution that wouldn't show any jaggies anyway like the common charts that are scaled in 25 unit increments.
You should gain alot of your power back in the low to midrange after tuning. On my setup which is very similar to yours I pulled a 22whp gain in midrange and also strengthened the entire curve after cam gear/vafc tuning. I'm sure you'll have similar results
BTW, Charles tunes at Autolink now right? I think I'll have to hit them up for my next tuning session.

That is what im hoping, im lacking power down low, hopefully the camgears/vafc will help.
The resolution on just the HP curve is bigger, i dont know if you looked at it, thats why its soo "smooth"
Thanks SurferX

When I dynoed my R at the Type R dyno day last year at Area 51 I got 178whp with just a Spoon intake and Exhuast. But I think that was a fluke becuase I dynoed at IB and at Sleeper Motors but I got mid 160whp. I think that dyno gives out high numbers.
