Okay, here is the story. I went to the 1/4 mile track with my new g-Force drag radials to see what I could pull with some traction. I did a short e-brake burn out and then lined up. I launched with a clutch drop at about 3000 RPM, and MAJOR WHEEL HOP. It was then a bumpy ride all the way down the track. I could not find anything wrong that day and I have been driving my car since, but it makes a noise. It is the noise of metal hitting metal. It only happens between 10 mph and about 60 mph. I finally got my car jacked up and ran it on jack stands to find where the noise is coming from. I found that my driver side axle is not only spinning, but moving in and out of the tranny about half an inch and that is making the part that goes through the bracket hit on it and make a noise. I am planning on removing the axle and checking it out, but I would like to have you guys's opinion on what you believe is wrong and what to look for. I mean I am still driving the car and it drives fine other than the annoying noise. I have a JDM tranny with OEM Honda LSD if it matters. Thanks.

 

 

 

is it the intermediate shaft that's moving, or the axle???

 

I can look at the tranny and see it moving in and out of the tranny a little and then the place where it goes through the mount it is also moving and that is where the noise is coming from cause when it goes out then goes back in it hits and makes a metal hitting metal noise. I don't really know how to differentiate between the axle and the intermediate shaft. I should have taken pics, grr.

 

sounds like it's a problem with the int. shaft. I would pull it and check the play and see if there's any noticable damage... sucks

 

I would first start by taking out the axle and shaft, make sure they are ok.
If thats not the problem, your diff. might be busted.
I had a similar problem and it ended up being a stripped spider gear.

 

Is there any repair for a stripped spider gear? Any more suggestions?

 

No, you need another pumking = new diff.
