Harness Mounting Q.
No has answered this question for me.
I know people say you shouldn't mount the inside harness belt to the original location, which is the seat, but I believe this is with factory seats. I have Recaro SRDs, why can't I mount the inside belt to the seat??

not a good idea... if the seat breaks loose, you're going wherever it goes. Also, I think it would be illegal in most sanctions for racing, and may not pass a tech inspection at an HPDE.
Yeah, but if it were so unsafe, wouldn't it be a good idea to do it for the factory 3 point belts too? I understand that racing put more stress on things, and that if you crash, its likley to be more intense than a normal road crash. But, having said that, the brackets are certified, they are the Wedge Engineering ones sold with the Recaro seats by OnTrak.
I have a Sparco road seat with a 4 point Schroth harness with a wedge bracket and I attached my inner to the bracket for the factory buckle. I run with NASA group 3 and have never had a problem with tech
I ran HPDEs for a couple of years with the inner belt of a 5-point harness clipped to an eye-bolt that replaced the inner seat belt bolt, and no tech inspector said a word. I'd guess that if you hit somethng hard enough for the stock seat to break free of the sliders, you're screwed no matter what.
I just completed NASA/SCCA tech inspections of my H4/ITA CRX Si and the belts are mounted according to the directions from Simpson (shameless plug). It is important to understand that the chassis is the controlling element and not the seat. Car makers design using something resembling the "capsule concept" and thus you want to be firmly planted in it. Should the seat tear away from its mountings the belts will try to keep you in that location anyway. Our setup uses "eye bolts" and the horizontal bar, behind my head, on the roll cage. The shoulder harness is the wrap-around type.
Many years ago we used the floorpan for our TR-3. You can use the factory floorpan mounting points if you think they will be as strong. Whatever you do-if using "eye bolts" - use Really big fender washers (~2.5" diameter) on both sides if you drill holes. Again, do take a look at the Simpson catalog and the GCR to see the correct mounting arrangement.
