Default OEM All motor rebuild

What's the "ideal" all motor buildup using OEM parts? Half way through my LS/VTEC buildup, so I want to think this through before commiting more $$$ into it.

What I have so far:

B18b block
B16a head/tranny

I want to throw in the highest compression OEM pistons I can run. (CTR, oversize?) Working on P&P my own design, so head is already fully disassembled. How high is the ITR valvetrain good for? 9k rpms?

Any other insights? TIA! *Remember, OEM parts only*

yeah CTR pistons, and mill your b16a head 30 thous, hen mill #3 main cap on the ls block to fit a GSR crank girdle or just buy a Z10 Motorsports one.

Would I need to cut some deeper reliefs in the CTR pistons? I know it's a pretty high dome on those. And what would be the ending CR, assuming w/o milling the head? I want to keep this car on the street (and pump gas).

I haven't heard feedback about the Z10 girdle...anyone with experience with those?

well if you wanna use OEM parts then you can use the B18C crank girdle but you have to get the mill the center cap to fit the B18A/B/B20B. But if you into aftermarket then this one is a bolt-on with most of everthing you need except the windage tray, oil pick-up and oil pan...
http://app1.hybridgarage.com/s...00001
..but you dont need a crank girdle...

Yeah well...My dad can beat up your dad.

Well with an LS block and CTR pisonts stock bore un milled stock B16A head and stock head gasket you are gonna be pushing 12ish:1 compression. Pretty decent and cheap and OEM reliable. Might wanna upgrade those cams though. Umm I'll take a 12:1 compression 81mm x 89mm block ANYDAY over a motor that is identical except it's 84mm and only 10:1 compression. (all numbers assuming stock un touched B16/ITR head) :shrugs:

stock block b20vtec wont be able to outdo a b18 with CTR pistons. no way, no how.

Why is it, that everytime I browse alot of boards and look at what people are trying to buy they always think that putting a "girdle" on a LS/CRV block is really good?

That has got to be the biggest myth on the internet.

And an expensive one at that. Expensive myths suck.

Don't buy a girdle....buy a GSR block if your concerned, its less money.

I witnessed a LS/VTEC with no girdle throw a rod when hitting a little over 10K rpm's on a dyno. It was ustilizing Skunk 3's, and we found its weak point, the Eagle Rod Bolts. Crank was still in balance.

The CTR B18A/B LS/VTEC setup will produce very nice power. And I agree with buy a B18C if you want the girdle. The cost will come out the same.

It was beening tuned with DFI and beening worked in sessions (rpm segments). The dyno indicated that the Stage 3's were still making power past 10K with his setup. This motor is also bigger than 1.8L.

This wasn't a situation of being "smart". It happen's when you are racing and push each eqaution to it's limit. You evenually find your weakest link.

From further evaluation, the LS crank held up without any distortion. As for would a block girdle help snapping a rod bolt? You make the call.

BUHAHAHAHA! Good one.

But yes, most performance out of OEM parts. (I can get my hands on OEM parts easier and for cheaper.)
