Default 98 Accord LX check engine light

About every 3d gas tank, once it goes below 1/2, my check engine light comes on... I had my mechanic look at it (about 8 months ago), and the code was coming up as the 02 sensor. He told me that Honda's 02 sensor's are very sensitive, and told me to use that fuel injector cleaner (every few fillups) and put in good gas - and that's what I've been doing - and whenever I do that - the light goes off the next day...

Anyway - my question is - should I worry about this? Or should I keep doing what I've been doing? I've only been putting 92 gas in the car for about 2 months now... Any suggestions?

I wouldn't worry about the check engine light coming on, cuz if it's coming on just becouse of that it aint going to hurt nothin. So ide say if u wanna use lower grade fuel and keep using the injector cleaner that would work. You might not even need to use the injector cleaner.

I wouldn't put in the higher grade gasoline all of the time, you are creating an octane dependency (at some point the engine will need the higher octane or it won't run right, at which point you are committed to buying the higher octane for the life of the car).

You could try replacing the oxygen sensors, which cost ~ $80 and $90 from autozone (there are two on your car).

But something is happening to cause the O2 sensors to read what they are reading. Either they've gone bad, or there really is a problem. If there is a problem, it is quite possibly your catalytic converter. Therefore, consider having it looked at by a muffler place, they shouldn't charge you because they will want you to buy from them if you need a new one. However, if it is bad, don't buy from them because your car may be under a 5 year / 100,000 mile warranty on the emission control devices, which includes the cat.

I already had one 02 sensor replaced about 2 years ago...

I'm not sure about my warranty - the mechanic told me that it might be the cat, but I should check my warranty - I have the 6 year 160000km warranty (I'm canadian) and as I was reading through it, it seems that the CAT isn't covered - Am I reading that wrong? I'll post the actual wording tonight when I get home - I know that the extended warranty did not cover my 02 sensor when I replaced it.

Is an O2 sensor easy to replace by yourself?

Really - you can create an octane dependancy? I had no idea....

The long warranty for emmissions equipment is reguired by the US govt. Probably don't have it in Canada. D'ya think Honda gives that warranty because they're generous? And on my '98 the 8yr/80kmile warranty only covers catalysts and ECM/PCM. The O2 sensors and those zillion little valves & things are covered for 3/36 along with everything else.
