88-91 Civic Ex 4dr questions.
I know this car can be had with a 5-speed, correct? If so, did the motor/tranny or anything else differ from the D16A6 in the Si? I think the ECU was not a PM6, correct?
Just looking for a little info on the 88-91 4-door Ex (Although they were only made in 90-91 I think). I might make a project car out of one.

Yeah well the EX's setup is identical to an Si....and as far as the ecu, i'm really not sure but i actually think its using the Si ecu as well....it just makes sense being that the ECU is for the engine not for the car.
The same thing, but I think that the EX tranny's 5th gear is a little lower for highway speeds, being it is a four door. Not sure though... Someone else back this up?
I have a 90 EX and yes they come in manual, only made in 90-91, it has the d16a6 motor with the PM6 ecu. I've heard the only ecu diff is with the auto EX vs the auto crx Si's, thought its only what I've heard.
EX Foh Doh
basically an LX model with an SI engine setup...yes it was available in at and mt
mt used pm6
at used ps9
EX models had a nicer interior and bigger brakes...and despite what your mama told u or what u may think it did not come with a sunroof standard.....
they came with bling bling hub caps too

Really--no sunroof on the Ex. That's interesting. What was the curb weight for a 90-91 Ex 4DR without the roof?
I thought the FD was different on the Ex, but I wasn't sure. That should be easy to fix with the Si tranny though.

It didn't have rear disc breaks EVER either. Sunroof was a dealer option - I have seen them on DX's.

i have a 91 ex 5 sp. since new with 160k and an unspecified hybrid motor in it after several other motors...i love this car!
weight was originally listed at 2368 without sunroof which was a dealer installed option that can leak after a couple of years...
ecu and tranny is essentially si. with a b16 motor in it it weighed >2570 with me in it (200 lbs) and some 50 lbs. of weight taken out of body

I have an 88 ED3 (4dr). As far as "project car," they are almost as limitless as an EG. Mine has:
KYB AGX 4-way struts front
KYB AGX GR2 non-adjust rear
APC coilovers (lowered 3")
Brake conversion from a 1999 'Teg LS w/ porterfield R4 pads
-the brake conversion gave me ~3.5* of pos camber, which required the 3" of lowering to correct
14x6 Prelude steelies w/ Yoko AVS ES100 tires (195/60R14)
Si longblock and tranny swap (D16 block w/ DPFI)
2.5" exhaust
It handles pretty nicely and the curb weight on the title is 1973 lbs.
I have since stripped all A/C components
