Default Door intrusion bar removal??????

Anyone done this? I'm trying to figure out how to do it with the minimal damage to the door.

BEFORE ANYONE STARTS!!! Yes I know it's unsafe. Yes I know I'm a f%^&ing idiot for doing it. Yes I know I'll die an agonising death in a carpark impact. I ride a motorbike as my daily driver so even a gutted door is better protection. I'm really NOT after your opinion on this "modification", I need an idea of how to do it!

Thanx in advance

You're talkinga bout the bar attached to the outer door skin, as seen in this pic?:

From the looks of it, you could cut the majority of it out without touching the outer door skin. Any grinder should be able to fit in there if you remove the inner door skin first (you can cut a lot more off than you see in this pic, but I was restricted by class rules). I personally wouldn't mess with the tack welds between the lip and the outer door skin for fear of damaging the outer door skin.

I'm pretty sure you have to cut the inner door skin, and remove the window before you do this.

I just cut all of the innder skin off..but mines a race car.

doin' the same thing...but i'm also puttin in a 6 pt. roll cage...its a street/strip car, not daily drvr...but still with the cage atleast i will have a good solid bar in between me and the door..

but anyways...use a jig saw or saw zaw, cut the inner door skin out and cut and grind away..or just a fiberglass door skin.

I dont think it is tack welded on my model. I ran a hacksaw blade down between and I cut it pretty easy. I think it just has that caulking compound....

That bar is so strong when I got hit by an American car that **** didn't even bend only the bottom part bent below the moldings.

I got hit at like 40MPH like with a 3000-4000LBS car.

if not for that bar I would have my car snap into two peaces.

Bar is a life saver that’s why its their.

yeah, it's not welded to the outer door skin. It just has a rubber caulking (not like the caulking/adhesive on the rest of the car.

Do you have any idea of what the bar weighs?? Is it worth the trouble of removing? Actually if you answer the first one, I'll figure out the second one

for a street car, it's totally not worth it. I wish I had weighed it for you, but I didn't, and it's at the scrap yard now. But I'd estimate maybe 7-8 lbs for the bar itself (7-8 each door), a couple pounds more if you count the skin.

then all the windows and stuff was another something.

Martini, have you weighed your doors in the condition they are in now? I too am interested in gutting my doors in my race car (actually, having two sets of doors). They are currently as stock with windows and everything. I have a roll cage with 2 door bars. I weighed a stock door the other day and it was 65 pounds (manual windows). Also, how do you open and close the driver door now? Thanks.

I haven't weighed them. They are still pretty heavy, but not nearly as heavy as there were with everything on them. I don't think I will be needing to take the doors off anytime soon. So I'm not sure I'll be able to weigh them for you. you can really tell they are lightweight when you open and close them though.

We fabricated skins for the doors, and then made a custom handle for the inside. Just push the little **** forward to open the door. Lighter and looks better than trying to mount the stock handle, if you ask me.

I have a better idea for weight reduction.....cut about 2/3 of the carbs from your diet, you'll safely lose a considerable amount of weight and you won't have to fear 4-way intersections.
