John that does suck man! but i guess i can call myself very lucky then..
I have never missed a second gear or any other but damn forth!!! it happened 3 times to me.. and i did not blow anything up! with my GSR motor in my hatch.. at pomona raceway i snaped an alternator belt when i did that and i did it once with my ITR motor in my hatch.. luckily everything was fine.. each time i checked compression and made sure nothing really bad happened and made sure there are no bent valves.. I think its not the driving but the way you position your hand as you are about to drop to 4th.. now i really pay attention especially when going into 4th gear even if i'm racing against someone i rather take it easy then accidentally end up blowing it up.. again sorry to hear about that..

I just got my car back a few weeks ago from the same thing. I was doing about 65-70 mph and accidently went into 2nd instead of 4th. The head was fine, but every valve needed to be replaced. The compression in my cylinders was #1 160, #2 115, #3 90, and #4 was 0. You are suppose to have 180 in each cylinder. All I can tell you is that hope for the best because it is not cheap. Acura charged $780 to take the head off and put it back on and you have to pay for whatever the machine shop does to your head. I was lucky and Acura paid for the parts, but I had to pay for the labor. It ended up costing me $950 to get my car fixed. More than likely it will not be covered under warenty. The only difference between mine and your situation is that I was not racing my car. Sorry to hear about what happened and I hope it doesn't cost you as much as it did me.
