Default DIY scramble boost control??? Dangerous??

okie I just read an article on using your "purge cutoff solenoid valve" to make a scramble boost controller.

"T"ing the valve into your wastegate vaccuum line and activating it with a momentary switch.

wont this cause overboost? potentailly killing your motor, or is it activated on launch and released upon reaching your predefined boost?

intriguing idea, but i dunno...
