I know this goes under apperance but I am not allowed to participate there yet. Anyways, I am looking at shaving a feet things in my car, primarily doors, and was wondering if anyone had a good tutorial on how to do this. If possible, images would be helpful.

BBBBWAAAAAHAHAHAHAH..

this does belong in the "apperance" threads

Are you going to "SHAVE THE DOORS " or just the handles? Shaving the doors would be really cool, but I think they would call that molding. You should fix the windows in the up position and mold the trunk closed at the same time. When you are molding your shogun/Buddy/widow/**** kit on you should just weld the hood shut. That would be really cool.

What are the other "feet" things you are looking to shave?

I'm looking at shaving my door handles and doing the molding as well. I know it's pretty important to keep door handles as if your battery dies out for whatever reason you won't be able to get in but I am going to keep my truck as is as a back-up device. In case my battery dies out, I'll be able to crawl in through the back and open my doors. And yeah right....I bet it would look cool to weld your hood shut but I'm not looking into doing this for the obvious reason. LOL.

search dude.... just use the search funtion... I'm guessing that "shaving" is covered PLENTY of times before..

well lets see

"shaving" searched resulted in 79 results (searched archieved messages)
"shaved" resulted in 121 results...
"shave" 67 results....

The reason you can't post is because noobs always ask questions that have already been covered... usually somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 times...you should search first... probobly has been covereed already... if you can't find anything on search... then ask... MAKE SURE YOU SEARCH BOTH "RECENT CONTENT" AS WELL AS "ARCHIEVED CONTENT".

Just be carefull when shaving the door handles. More in a safety aspect than others. If you get into a wreck and for some reason you are unconcience in the car, nobody will be able to get in. But if you're going to do it anyways, get the sheet metal from a body shop, tack, spot weld and then sand the **** out of it. Just make sure its seamless and doesn't have spots from the tacks because it will show horribly in your paint.

lol...well I some a bit on shaving but wanted more info on this...when you shave I assume you would weld it from the inside so that you don't have this problem....that way you don't have to worry about sanding it down like crazy at it will be on the inside....then you can maybe use bondo to even out the inside...this would be much easier than than sanding the spots down but is it the correct way? hit me back w/ more info...thanx...

Since most people are assh@les in the forum(most people have no clue how to do some things and it scares them so they say stupid stuff),lol.Ill give you a few tips>You MUST weld,if you do it any other way it WILL crack on you.You just need to "tack" weld ,and dont weld it all at one time,it will cause the thin metal to warp on you.You want to weld one end, then go to the other end and switch it up so you dont keep heating up the metal in the same spot.Let it cool then weld another one.For the handles you dont need anything real thick, for the moldings you want something thats about 1/8th thick.Just go to home depot and buy a strip of metal that is the right width, then cut the ends down to size. You want to grind all the edges before welding,on the door and the material,it will help it to weld faster and use less heat.Once everything is welded in place, grind down the welds so they are flush. Then do then layers of bonda till it layers up flush. Here is the trick to make sure they come out flat and not wavy. You want to find a very straight 2x4 or soemthing that is flat and about 3 foot long, then put your sand paper on it and use the 3 foot long surface to sand with.If you use a small sanding block it will come out very uneven. As your sanding take note of low and high spots.i normally hit it with 40 grit over the raw bondo, then go to 180.When your done, primar the door and go over it with 320,all the spots that start to show bondo through the primar are high spots and you should see waht you can do to fix them.any little thing that is high or low ,you will see in the sunlight. You can also make a cardboard templete of the door by tracing the pattern from the edge of the door to help with finding high and low spots.Hope this helps.Good luck.

If you drive your car every day, your shaved door handles will probably crack after a awhile. Seen it time after time, plus its a car why the hell would you want to shave the door handles?

Hmmm. Judging from the posts above you've already been flamed enough so I'll cut you a break

The accepted (and proper) method is to weld in a steel plate in place of the door handle but you can ghetto it and have it turn out pretty good and reasonably durrable using fiberglass and epoxy.

Do a search in Tech for a topic "Body repair" and you'll find a post of mine on the subject.
