Default Toda Spec B's..........K&N oil filter

Do you guys reccoment upgrading the valve springs with the B Spec? Please include explanation of some sort if possible. Thanks.

Also, has anyone ever used or reccomend using a non-OEM oil filter? I was lookin at the K&N performance one. It is worth it or stay OEM?

Thanks in advance guys.

Mike

TODA says that their valve springs are recommended for Type R engines, but not absolutely necessary. On a GSR, they would be necessary. I would get them because they are matched to the cams. Get titanium retainers as well. They reduce valvtrain weight and allow higher revs, more safely. You will not gain anything in oil filters. The factory one is as good as you will ever need. Synthetic fiber filters like Mobil One or Fram X2 supposedly trap more contaminants and flow more efficiently, but you will never feel it. I use a Fram X2 just because it has an anti-drainback valve, which prevents most of the oil from seeping back down into the sump, leaving oil up in the engine when starting it.

Hey i do probably expect to get the valve springs along with the Spec B's but why titanium retainers? You said because they allow for higher revs, more safely. I dont plan on making the redline more than 8400 rpms

Then they will allow the same revs, and more longevity, reliability. $240 (from Godspeed, nitrided).

i like the K&N filters because they have that hex nut on top, which makes it easy to install/remove.

If you don't plan to rev over 8400rpm, don't even bother spend the money on the specB, just get the specA. In order to get the power out from the specB, you will need to get the ecu reprogram. And since you at it, you may as well rise your rev limit to around 9200rpm at least. So to be safe, just get the TODA valve spring and the tit retainer. Don't be cheap on your valve train. It better be safe than sorry!!

Since oil filters came up, has anyone used the NAPA oil filter for the R? The NAPA store in my area has
a FRAM & NAPA oil filter cut out to show & xplain to customers how much better their oil filter
is compared to FRAM.

This thread is funny! One reply is super technical the next is super basic. Back and forth back and forth it's got two different conversations going on!

Maybe this post is semi-tech, or is it semi-basic?
Does anyone know if K&N has the anti-drain back valve as well? I tried to email them but no response. I'll try calling.

Also, Castrol has a new filter which has synthetic media, and only costs ~$5. I am trying to contact them as well to see if I get any info. Anyone use those?

Yes, definitely get toda valve springs and tit retainers. And raise that redline!!!!

The cams are made to make their power around 9000-9200 RPM. So if you don't bring it up there, then you're wasting your money. If you don't want to raise your redline, I wouldn't even get cams at all...the ITR cams are good enough for that. The others aren't worth the cost if you're not using their power.
