Advice on Neck Support donut
Best one I've found yet:
Thicker and doesn't compress and wear out as soon as others.
I got mine here: http://www.ompusa.com/safetyacc.htm

I have a cheap Gforce one, but I wish I got one of the sparco wedge shaped ones. They support the head and neck much better, also more comfortable.

I just picked up a Sparco wedge last week-end... and one stupid question remains -- what is the proper way to wear it and why?
Those who've been instructed by Miriam at Summit know that she tells you to put in on "backwards" (i.e., tall section to the front). Others (including those at OG) recommend putting it on "forwards." I can honestly see the benefit of wearing it backwards (slowing rapid forward decelaration of the noggin) -- but I can't help but think it was designed to wear forwards.
Feel free to ridicule me
-- but only if you can set me straight!

Speaking of that... I have one of the blue Sparco ones pictured above that I've been meaning to put up for sale. It's never really been worn. I tried it on once only to find out that my neck's too long for it to do any good on me.
I could bring it to Summit (assuming I can go) if anyone's interested. Sorry to derail the thread.

I do not believe these do anything as far as protecting your noggin from rapid deceleration in the same fashion any H&N restraint does. They do however, do a great job of relieving neck strain from my experience letting your helmet rest on something vs. having an extra 4 to 7 lbs. of hat on your head swinging it left and right and all points of the compass.

I agree with Phatty on this one, mostly. I have the M&R. It did help me in my rollover which was pretty violent. I crawled out of the car without any problems. It won't really do a thing in a head on type situation. I don't use it anymore. I feel funny putting on the HANS when almost nobody else is using them. It is more work to get straped in. But hey, **** happens & I still have too much life to live.

The thing on the whiplash (@ least for rewards movement) should be moot if you have a racing bucket. The seat should have the required padding per SCCA & NASA. If so, your helmeted head would be supported by the seatback. This assumes you are in a sedan not a formula type car.
I probably should have said that I don't think they'd do much "alone" - perhaps in conjunction w/ a H&N restraint that it wouldn't impede, it might be a help. I am not sure, would rather give it the benefit of the doubt though.

You finding that its not "as" much work anymore? I am not sure how easy the HANS attachment is, for the Isaac, it took a little getting used to by feel. The more I do it, the easier it is to get into (it was always easy to get out of). We have actually been swapping in/out the device during pit stops this year - I never would have thought that was doable at first.
I am pretty sure that I have seen more and more people in some type of H&N restraint this year than last - I wonder if that is because of pro series accidents or something else. Seems like a good trend.

It's basically marketed to kart racers. Nice fit, and alot of support. A bit on the pricey side. They can be purchased thru http://www.trackmagic.com for $54.95.

Topic ressurection.
Enter, the MQ collar.

I think I'd wear this more at karting events versus auto-x/HPDE, just because I'm racing competitively versus others, whether they be n00bs or experts. $74.95 @ OMP. If it saves me a week of neck soreness, its worth it in my book.
Plus, I have the heavy-*** Bell M2.
