swapping blue interior for black
long *** post.... summary: i have mint blue interior, dont like it that much, not sure if its worth it though to switch to black/grey panels which are in rougher shape. lemme hear some opinions
im looking for some opinions here.
ive got a 91 std with mint blue interior. ive already ditched the vinyl seats for crx si fronts and civic si rears which match the blue decently well.
i dont mind the blue at night or on cloudy days but in straight sunlight ive always hated it.
so i went junkyard hunting... i found a crx dash (in black). thing is its a bit weathered and there are a few small cracks between the block off plates (beside sunroof switch) also the center console and glove box are cracked pretty bad.
i also found some civic si doorpanels with mappockets and the apholstered part on the side.
i can get all this stuff for ~100 but im kind of worried that its going to end up getting real expensive. i mean im not opposed to painting the rear interior with vinyl paint to save replacing all that stuff but then theres all the little parts like door handles, glovebox and seatbelts and speaker covers. and then the carpet too. not to mention the center console which im going to have to find.

Your STD didn't come with a center console, did it? Mine just has the shifter coming straight up from the ground, so I got an integra one. I do like the black interiors from our cars much better than the blue (brown are the worst), but it could be a real pain to find all of the parts in decent shape. Maybe you could find someone that wants to change to blue, if you're lucky.
Also, do you have AC or not? Because if you live in warm weather and you don't have it (like me), the black interior seems to get a little hotter than the blue.

no it didnt come with any console. just the shifter sticking up as you said. i put in a blue console i found in a junkyard a while back though. the integra console is a really nice option unfortunately it only comes in black... and with the way ive got my seats mounted (89 crx si seats mounted using custom brackets) they sit closer to the center of the car and from what i can see the teg console (particularly the armrest part) just wont fit
and yeah, no AC, and no tint. i live in canada but summer here is very sunny and can be very warm... will black interior really make it that much hotter? because as it is you can practically burn yourself after the car sits in the sun for a few hours

Well, I think it does make a difference. My mom has a beat-up 89 hatchback with a blue interior and on the really hot days mine always seems worse. Maybe I could test it this summer by leaving them out in the sun when it gets over 80 and using a thermometer.
