NorCal WCHC Vs. NASCAR laptimes at Infineon, just for fun comparison
The NorCal WCHC ran the NASCAR track config at Infineon Raceway. So I decided to compare some lap times between the HC and NASCAR drivers. All for fun. Maybe Tom Lepper could be picked up for a road course ringer.
Anyway
Tom Lepper H1 lap times were something like 1:30:xx
I ran a best of 1:41.xx in my H5 Civic HB.
Civicrr in his H4/E2 Civic Coupe, I am guessing ran somewhere in the 1:35.xx
I had to recall the WCHC time from memory, so the actual times may be different.
NASCAR 2002 at Infineon
Tony Stewart Pontiac Home Depot 1:16.640 (top qualifier)
Ron Fellows Chevrolet Cellular One 1:17.849 (Mid pack qulifier, Road course specialist and 24hr Lemans Champ)
Steve Park Chevrolet Pennzoil 1:20.523 (provisional starter)
In closing,
Tom Lepper is only 10 secs behind the provisional grid in his Accord TypeR. Not bad at all.
I should wake up and quit dreaming...

But now you have got me dreaming. All I have to do is learn how to talk without moving my mouth like Ward Burton. Oh I also have to raise a potful of money!
Like Greg said, maybe they will need a "road course ringer" for Sears. I know that at least one of the teams added one last year. Think about it....about 3X the hp & slicks!
LOL, there was a similar thing floating around on an email a year or two ago about top level NASCAR teams testing at VIR-North vs. HPDE instructor lap times around that same circuit a couple of days later. IIRC the difference between the NASCAR guys and an instructor in a Porsche (can't remember who it was but I don't remember it being particularly exotic, an early 90's 911 C2 maybe?) = less than 3 seconds per lap. Interesting stuff
