hid install q's
about to install some hid's and need some last minute help. From what I have read I basically connect the hid's to the low beam. Also upgrading the fuse to a 20 is good idea. Things I have not found while searching. How should the filament be mounted? With the ignitor down, up or to the left or right? Also for those with 96-00 civics where did you mount the boxes? pics would be great. any other tips before I begin? tia
if you bought an HID kit, the bulb will already be ready for installation.. and just mount the ballasts anywhere u can.. there isnt really a rule on where they go..
I forgot to mention these are honda oem's that I am retro fitting into my housing. I have the adapter/shields coming in today.
about the ballast's I know there's not a rule where to mount them. I just want to see where people did mount them.

filament, ignitor? Is the ignitor part of your bulb or something? I've seen some that are like that. My Phillips setup has the ballast and ignitor integrated into one unit (which is why the high voltage wire can't be extended on mine).
when I say fillament I mean the part of the light bulb that runs along side the bulb, long tube that has the wire comming out of it at the top. sorry for my mis-use of terms.

well, those shield adapters call for the use of D2S bulbs, and the ones you have are most likely D2R bulbs unless ur honda HID kit is from a TSX, NSX, or S2K.. so u will have to do slight modification to the bulb to make it fit in right, and the return wire will be however it needs to be.

The position of the return wire doesn't make THAT much difference, however ideally it should face down.

ok they are d2s bulbs. I was told they were jdm ev hid's. I would think that honda oem hid's would all be the same. so if they are not, please elaborate on their differences and what I have.
here is the bulbs with the shield on. the shield doesn't fit snug on the bulb so what should I use to keep them together? I don't know how hot these run so I donno what I could use.

here is a close up pic of the ballast

a pic for those who don't know what a hid shield is

for full size pics see here
thanks for all the help so far. I really appreciate it.

i dont know much about those shields, how are they suposed to attach to the bulb? wont the little pin that holds the bulb down keep the HID bulb inside the adapter?
I called the company that I bought the shields from and they cleared up how the shields work witht eh bulb. Basically the shiled just takes up space that a normal h4 bulb would occupy. The bulb slides into the shield and will be firmly held in place by the wire that normally holds the h4 bulb in. there is a gap that can bee seen in the pics between the bulb and base. that is were the wire clip will hold the bulb which is held in place by the shield. I hope that makes sense. I am gonna use angle iron cut to hold the boxes in place and find some kinda straps to hold them to the car. I don;t want to use the pipe straps with the holes in it because I want a cleaner install. I am gonna look for some kinda heavy duty wiring harness to connect the head light wires to the hid wires. other than that and adding the higher amp fuse I believe I am all set.
all i did on a few of my friends cars was splice the power and ground wires, upgrade the fuse, and it was all done.. you should post some pics on a dark road after all the aiming is done.. show the ground light, frontal pics to see how it looks with no glare, etc..
