Why do people here flip out about bluring lisence plates?
Perhaps the wrong forum, but I asked here because this is where it is an issue.
Many of the cars posted here are so unique, that one could easily recognize the car on the street with out a lisence plate number... and if hiding location is the issue, many folks that take the time to blur their photos do not have the state name blurred, or have the location feild under their name filled in. Asides from that, chances are hundreds of people a day see your lisence plate. Should I blur my plates on the street too? Am I missing something? Someone fill me in.

But can just anyone run the plates? Wouldn't you have to have some sort of government job to do that?

You can run the plates just by paying $5 (I think that's the price) at the DMV. They give you the type of car, name of registered owner, and address where they live. Crazy.
On the street, it might actually be less noticable. Here on HT, there are thousands of Honda ONLY fans, some of which might be shady. On the street.....there are only a few here and there. That's why posting a picture of your car here with the plate is slightly more risky.
Just like everything else....it's just a deterrent. If someone wants it, they'll take it.

Thank you, that is the answer I was looking for. I was unaware that such services were available to the public...
My next question is why are such services available to the public? How is this useful in every day life?

Exactly. If a "pro" car theif sees a civic hatch on here with a C5 swap and he doesn't have his plates blured, and is pretty close to him, that makes it a VERY easy target for him to go specifically look for that one car and steal it, knowing that it will have an ITR motor that he can get big bucks for.

Haven't you ever watched gone in 60 seconds? Not really an accurate depiction, but they got car address's with licenses. (Right or was I drinking?)
Hey everyone be carefull, I've heard that some people go to the track, see what you run and then right down your license number. Better then a shopping mall, and they know (or have an idea) of what modifications you have, and how much can be sold on the black market. Some cars with the right mods can be worth alot.
