Default Swain Tech header coating

Thought i'd go a different route than most people. Very thick coating, much thicker than Jet-hot. Noticable lower temperatures under the hood now. It doesn't look as cool as the silver jet hot coating but I don't give a crap. Just thought I'd share.

actually, it appears like they took the header, and coated it in ceramic material?

Yes and yes.

The coating acts as a barrier to reduce heat transfer, i.e. lost of exhaust gas temperature. If the tubing is only coated on the outside there is more heat transfer though the tubing walls and then it gets "slowed" down at the OD of the tubing. This traps more heat in the tubing walls which isn't good and is one of te reasons why wrapping a header is a bad idea besides moisture retention. The inside should always be coated with the outside or you could accelerate the degradation of the coating on the outside of the tubing if that was the only side coated.

OK COOL THANKS
I WAS THINKING THAT THE OUTSIDE COATING WOULD KEEP THE HEAT IN AND COATING THE INSIDE WOULDN'T BE NECESSARY, BUT DIDN'T THINK OF THE DECOMPOSITION OF THE METAL.
I GUESS COATING THE INSIDE WOULDN'T REALLY EFFECT FLOW WOULD IT?

Only the top portion of the header is coated on the inside, until the first bends. It may effect flow since the coating is very thick and very rough, it's like 200 grit sandpaper.

That's odd...I have mine coated from http://www.hpccoatings.com and they coated the entire inside, and it's a nice smooth coating.

Maybe price is a factor? How much was the total cost of coating?

http://www.swaintech.com/race.html

this stuff is worth the money. jet hot works but in comparison this stuff is THICK.
on my friend's sr20det motor, we had the manifold, turbine housing, and the o2 elbow pipe coated, and if you look at the edge of the flange where the coating starts, you can see it definately has a thickness to it.

http://srswap.tripod.com and sorry in advance if the page doesnt work, tripod is gay and this is just a cheap website they set up to finally get the pictures online. the page resets at midnight so thats probably the best time to try and view it. or someone save and host?

i thnk the pricing is on the website there, the only reason i *wouldnt* get it is because a guy in the unit across from me does the jethot shiny style for cheap, but im thinking i will invest in it for my exhaust parts. they also have other coatings too, like a black stealth intercooler coating that helps efficiency (not like spray painting) and other various coatings.

ps- it looks good
