Default Just got my car done after 9 months. Then it happens.

After the cars been parked for 9 months. I get it running last week thanks to Sonny & his basemap. I planned on driving the car to LA for the Honda-tech meet. Took it for a drive last night. Didn't drive it hard. But gave it a little gas.

I noticed I have a loud whine when the motor idles down. Only from 600-900rpm. It's coming from the lower part of the engine. But I can hear it best near the Crank Pulley.

I think it's a rod bearing.

Time to go find a b16a shortblock to throw in.
(anyone have any JDM b16 shortblocks laying around?)

I just wanted to vent a little. I guess I'll take this block out and give it the normal workover, pistons, sleeves, rods, ect.....

Argggh...that sucks, man.

You're sure it's a rod bearing?

No. I don't really know what it is. But I'm assuming.

As soon as I give it just the slightest amount of throttle it goes away.

Before anything else, check the tension on your timing belt. I've seen too tight make this kind of sound from the resonation, and also too loose do the same (strange vibration in the loose belt at idle). Might want to give it a shot before doing anything too drastic.

Hope it turns out something simple,

Ryan P.

did you have any problems before?? were you even boosted before? if not it seems strange something as drastic as a rod bearing would go. maybe the noise is the oil pump

Yes, supercharged before.

The oil pump would make a noise like that?

um stupid question, but did you forget to put in the woodruff key in the crank pulley?

I has an aftermarket aluminum pulley ant the key fell out causing the pulley so spin/slip and amka a god awful squeeling when i accelerated or tapped the gas.

it might, you said it was loudest by the crank pulley. i would check the key also.
make sure the pulley is tightened down too. might sound stupid, but i would always check the small stuff first.

yea definately check that stuff out first it seems like your jumping to conclusions buying a new short block. At least pull the pan before dropping money on a block...my 2 cents

my old b18c made some crzy whining noise at idle, i changed the t-belt and water pump and it went away. much cheaper than a new block
good luck

Umm, probably good news for you, but a rod bearing will knock, not whine...

it's most likely something simple. definantly check it out completely before buying new parts or an entire block. dont' jump to conclusions.

if for some reason you need another block LMK cause i have a B16A block that's in excellent shape i need to get rid of, i sold the head and don't need the block any more.
