Cool guy. We chatted for about 5 minutes about the Indy 500 (he finished 8th) and downforce, and how there is hope for people who are not pre-teen karting champs to make it in professional racing (Ray did not start racing until he was 25).

I also met the President of Volvo Cars of North America, who said that something cool (from an enthusiast's point of view) might be coming out of Volvo pretty soon...he used to do some lapping stuff as well. Kinda gives one hope that the suits might know what they are doing.

The S60 R is going to be very nice.

It's like a STi, but without having to deal with attention from every highschool kid, which is a HUGE plus in my book.

Congrats on the new job, sounds fun.

 

The new job is an internship that will hopefully lead to something full-time after I am done with school.

I work in the Washington Bureau for the *** News Corporation. I am writing a story right now on the event that Greg Ray and Vic Doolan (Volvo Prez) attended - as soon as it is finished, I will post the link. I think it's going out on the wire, so it will probably be everywhere.

My boss was going to write it, until I told him I did some lapping days on the weekend and that it was really cool to meet Mr. DIY IRL champ. So he told me to do it instead.

The Volvo Prez said something about offering a bit of driver's ed for buyers of their new vehicles...similar to what Land Rover does with their off-road education.

buy a new s60R, get to toss it around on the company's dime? Sounds pretty cool to me.
