If I wanna read some serioulsy technical theoretical papers or books on turbochargers where should I look? Does anyone know specifically of any textbooks or SAE papers or anything?

...go to your local University Library - make sure it's a school that has a Mechanical Engineering department - and look up the SAE journals. There should be current issues, as well as a ton of stuff on microfilm and microfiche and DVD/CD-ROM. It's very dry, but it sounds like you can deal with it...

good luck...

a great one -- (being a manifold guy) is SAE paper 972775, its an easy read.

when youre ready to ge hardcore and read then reread then reread and then read 10-40 more times...

1999-01-0559
931897
952070
971565

if you are doing this for a living, then these are a good idea to understand... otherwise you might be wasting 9$ a copy, particularly without an engineering background. Good luck!

I have a SAE turbocharger specific book. Its quite difficult to understand if you arent versed in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, etc. If you are interested in the SAE book number, PM me. Its probably the best hands down articles i have read.

Thanks for all the info guys...I'll def. save the paper numbers. I just finished my freshman year in ME so maybe i'll wait a little before spending money on stuff I wont even understand......yet.

Can't wait to the day when I can finally get into serious engineering....what a dork I am.

Forced Induction by Graham Bell is pretty good as well.

take thermo, fluids, and heat transfer and then things begin to get much more clear. I would definately wait a while tho before really getting too in depth. i remember when i was a freshman, i spent hours in the library and really didnt take anything away from it, but at least you have the drive to try to learn

freshman year they try to weed out all the weenies so hang in there, the 2nd half of the sophopmore year is when it gets good.
