What is the major weaklink in our stock sound system, the stock speakers or the stock deck?

THe speakers, hands down. I replaced all 4 two weeks or so ago. I put in two pairs of 6 1/2 Blaupunkts in there. The sound difference is very noticable. The factory speakers are made of cheap whizzer cones, and I am somewhat surprised how that could be true for this car. The head unit is decent and provides enough power for all 4 aftermarket speakers. I thought about replacing it, but then I'd find msyself getting an amp and subs and I just don't want to add any more weight, I am trying to take weight off. Plus, I am not really into creating a competition sound system, I already have the great sound of VTEC in there, can you think of a better sound than that?

 

speakers...it usually is. a good enough upgrade is buying aftermarket speakers while keeping the stock head unit

 

I just installed a new deck, and later new front door speakers. I was pretty impressed at the improvement the new deck made with the OEM speakers, but the biggest improvement by far came from the new MB Quarts. The OEM speakers are worthless.

Definatly the speakers, those things suck! I think the factory deck is decent but i took it out and got a clarion pro audio CD player. If your looking for some replacment speakers look into the JL audio evelutions. I put four of them in my car with a small punch amp and they sound great and fit perfectly in the factory speaker locations.

What would be a perfect choice of speakers to replace the 4 crappy OEM ones, that make very noticable and a lot better sound?

Depends how much you want to spend. At the time I did mine, over 2 years ago, I choose the Sony Mobil ES speakers.
The factory stereo did just fine with those. I liked keeping it in the car, made it look as if I did not have a stereo worth stealing.

I say it's the deck. I just replaced mine yesterday with a pioneer DEH 9300 and the difference is amazing. I still will eventually probably get new speakers, but right now I'm glowing with glee.

 

MB quart are awesome hands down!

 

I'm down with that since I just replaced mine. The factory deck has like ShITz for power and I totally believe that is what is limiting the factory speakers (also the shitz) from their potential..(which is nothing...)

so errr...I would have to say both..but deck unit 1st!

 

yeah i replaced my head unit with alpine 7852R CD player and it sounds a lot better!.....clearer and less distortion!...until speakers are pushed too much!..LOL!

I'd say a combo of both as well, the stock unit is made by Panasonic (crap) I don't get why the Civic gets Alpine and we get Panasonic... Barfo... but I did the front speakers and the sound is a little better but the factory unit is lacking in bass output... the frequency must be weird. I have the exact same pair of pioneers in my Accord with a Pioneer head unit and the sound from them is REALLY good... especially for being so inexpensive... But the same speakers in the R being powered by the "acura" head unit suck!!

 

Panasonic? The stock deck in my 94 LS is made by Pioneer. It is the deck with a tape player built in, not a cd player. theres a DIN on the back of it to connect a cd player.

No dumbasses! It's from the TV show "the weakest link". That annoying woman says it after a contestant loses. You're all playing waaay too much GT3.

My opinion is that BOTH the headunit and the speakers are crap. The RMS output of the deck is about 2.5 Watts per channel. The speaker wire is lower than low grade and the paper cone speakers are worse than what you find in a $20 alarm clock.

What was the kicker for me and the reason to deep six the entire system was the fact that the antenna goes up when you're using the CD? WTF? that's some good engineering.

Buy a good, faceplate deck and some MB Quarts and you will be astounded.

stock deck is a POS. Stock speakers are crap. I was very disappointed in both.

 

I put in some b-boys on a few days ago and noticed a poping from the left rear speaker. Crap...
Did a clipped signal fry it from being underpowered, or were the speaker just crap?

I think your speakers crapped out because you were playing the Backstreet Boys.

Cracking is usually due to a toasted voicecoil. Get a new stereo and stop playing the Backstreet Boys crap.
