Default 20 x 6 x 14 slicks too small?

I might go to the track tonight and borrow my friends slicks. Last time I ran at the track with 205/40-16s so the slicks would be about 10% smaller then my tires...making my gearing way shorter..which should be good for my car sinc its NA.

Any comments?

Ive seen your screen name on the endyn website... and i remember awhile back i was looking into what size slicks to run myself and i am also running all motor. As far as Mr. Widmer giving advice, I remember him stating something like bigger and wider slicks arent always that great. If i remember correctly wider slicks equals slower trap speeds.... search the endyn board i believe it is something to do with larry's civic....someone asked why he ran such small slicks or something....

Well i would say try it....and if your recieving adequet traction then i guess they are fine....but if your still having traction problems try wider or bigger until your 60fts times are good.

And lastly...tell me how you do...im still looking into what size slicks to run myself

Well it didnt turn out as well as I would have liked...but it was my first time on slicks.
My first run..I got a 2.4 60 ft! Haha..and ran a 15.6!
Second run..2.25 60' and ran a 15.3..getting better.

Third run...launched higher...and it got better.
60' - 2.053
330' - 6.055
1/8 - 9.410
1/4 - 14.77

Now my 4th run..would have been awsome! But the damn tranny wouldnt go into 4th! So it fucked me.
60' - 1.928
330' - 5.986
1/8 - 9.337
1/4 - 14.854 <- missed damn 4th...should have been a 14.5 with the 60 ft I pulled!

I think with more practice and a better launch..maybe I can pull off a 14.49...which isnt bad since it was 97-98 degrees out and the elevation is 1250 ft.

did your trap speeds drop from what you normally run with street tires?? can you also post up your trap speeds and maybe a few of your runs with street tires??

1.9 60ft is not bad at all....im not sure what is a good 60footer on slicks...i kno on turbo setups a 1.6-1.7 is good...but not sure if all motor can get as low.....

Where the slicks big enough?? were you able to launch at like 6-7k, dump the clutch and it just picks up?? if not then u mite wanna go 22x6x13.... if not most pplz use 22x8x13...but i kinda feel that this may hinder trap speeds....

if u are able to hit a 14.5 that is deffinetely impressive....if i recall you are using an ls tranny which makes a big difference if u were running an si or gsr tranny....and if you were able to rev up to 8k im sure that would help also......and a clutch if u dont have one already would help out too....

with all that in mind....and cooler weather 14.0 or maybe even a 13 is possible

My trap speed with the 14.77 was 91.98 MPH and and the 14.8 where I messed up 4th was 89 MPH. My street tire trap speeds were in the 90-92 MPH as well...as I mentioned..conditions were pretty bad..I was running mid 15s on street tires last night
My previous best has been 14.84@93.3 MPH on street tires with a 2.23 60 ft...so you can get an idea how shitty last night was.

When I ran the 1.92 60 ft..I dropped it at 6000 or so..and it just grabbed and nailed revlimiter..it was so fast..damn I wasnt even ready for it! It definately grabbed well..so Id say the 20" slicks were good. Slciks are just a trip..it just throws you back and grabs so well...no wheel hop or spin..its awsome!

Friends of mine are running .4 slower on street tires in the summer vs winter here..and they are running the same times on slicks that they were running on street tires in the winter. So if I can pull a 14.5 on slicks now..then when colder weather comes...I should pull a 14.5 on street tires..and a 14.1-14.2 on slicks! That would be sick!

Looks like you have found the right slick setup for your car....

1. you trap speeds did not drop

2. even with terrible launches your times dropped about .7 secs compared to good launches on street tires...looks like with a good launch and a error free run you will yield an entire second drop in times....thats awesome!!

As far as heat factor....there are many ways to deal with that.....i remember you were looking into running a ram style intake..did you make one?? I added a piece of metal piping from the stock intake going to my highbeam headlight...and i protected it with heat shielding materials...this deffiently helps. Also before staging....trying to find ways not to allow your intake to suffer from heat soak....it will also hinder performance....

looks like low 14s is deffinetely concieveable...but get a new tranny it makes all the difference in the world and i think that alone can get u into the low 14s....
