DESPERATE for DOHC ZC help............
OK, so I have spent all week swapping a DOHC ZC in my 91 hatch Si. I have the motor in & I got everything hooked up. I don't have the ZC harness so I bought a dizzy for a 89 Teg & I swapped over teh plug from my Si dizzy & repinned it pe directions I got online. I bought the cam sensor from a JY & got the bastard started. I initially had code 9 so I swapped the wires areound on teh cam sensor & 9 was gone, but I have code 4. So I redid the timing belt thinking that would fix it-nope. My car is sounding AWFUL, it pop's & sputters really bad & the idle is a little eratic. I was thinking that it had something to do with vaccum or something since I had teh Si throttle body on, so we put the ZC throttle body back on & the car gave me code 3, 4 5, 7, & 9. I know it threw the TPS code b/c I don't have a TPS on teh ZC throttle body, but I am so stumped on everything else. The car is smoking pretty bad & my header isn't working right- I tried to use the upper 4-2 part from the stock ZC manifold & the down pipe from my ebay header, but they don't line up right & there is a gap in between so the exhaust gases are exiting almost in open header fashion. The motor has 170 compression across teh board, and feels like it wants to be strong, but it is running like ***. Can anyone help? Anone in Austin wanna lend a brotha a hand?
I can't offer much advice about all of those codes because i've never encountered those but if its idling bad it could be the vacuum hoses not being hooked back up correctly. Also, My ecu is throwing a code 9 and I am sure that all of my wiring is done correctly. you said that you just switched the two wires on the cam sensor and this fixed the code 9. when i switch those two wires my car doesn't even start. Maybe you know what I am doing wrong.
thanks

Make sure you have the right plugs hooked up, my car went nuts because I had the wrong plugs in the wrong space. There are about 3 plugs that are interchangeable. For the Intake Air Temp sensor it should have a white plug going into it, I believe the EACV has a green plug going into it, and there is one white plug left over that isn't plugged into anything. Make sure you had extended these wires as needed.
Also an Si throttle body should work fine on a ZC, I have an Si one on my ZC and it is like 99% the same, it actually works better I think since all the hoses I have from the DX fit into the Si parts of it better.
Pictures would help to. Put back on the Si throttle body and pull the hazard fuse and clear out the codes, then try and start the car and tell us what it gives then, I will try and help from there.

Be 100% sure all wiring and vaccum lines are good. If so then swap in a known good dizzy and try that. The code 4 almost always requires the dizzy to be replaced if the bearing is gone, Honda doesnt stock just the bearing.
OK- the cam timing has to be correct b/c I've had 4 people check to make sure that it's on. All vacuum seems OK, but I am throwing a MAP sensor code. I have a feeling that the 5 wires I had to repin on teh dizzy is what is causing all of this drama- my car continues to miss like it's not getting spark correctly. I really need to find a schematic that explains what each wire on teh 89 Teg dizzy do & the corresponding wires (5) on the 91 Si harness. BTW the codes that it is throwing now are 4,5,9. Can any one point me in teh direction of a schematic?
I used this diagram when I did my dizzy wiring http://www.geocities.com/civiczc/zcwire.html
however I did notice that according to the color to number part on the 7 plug Si connector my colors were completely backwards and #7 was on the opposite side so I dont know if thats a typo or not. So instead of

As for the MAP it can be caused by your timing which may be screwed up bc of the dizzy wiring. The most common prob is mixing the 2 white wires bc the red has worn off on such old cars. Try switching those first. I myself used an old Si dizzy plug and made the adapter as described on the website so I honestly dont know about the teg ones. Try searchin junkers for that Si connector, 5 finger discount when I grabbed my exhaust manifold.

Look at both sides of the plug you pinned, are the wires running color to color, if not that's your problem. Same thing happened to me with same swap.
no the wires on the dizzy side & harness side are not color to color. my Si harness has an orange wire that my dizzy does not have. also, my white wires are hard to tell what's what- I mean the wires are supposed to have stripes so you can diferentiate(sp?) between the two. Any way-- I think that ya'll are right as are my friends who looked at today. 'preciate the help fella's
the reason that i didn't really suspect the wiring before was b/c I didn't think that the car would turnover if I had it wrong. oh well- I'll give it a shot tomorrow *fingers crossed*

If you look where the wires enter the distributor I believe both white wires are in the same row, the top row of 3 wires. There is one white wire in the middle and one white wire on an end, the white wire on the end is the "white/red" wire and the one in the middle is the plain white. Color to color will get your engine running correctly in the end.
I just wanted to follow up- I finally got the chance to go work on my car & I rewired the dizzy color to color & it started right up!!! No more CEL, and it sounded pretty normal
I now have to port the header & adjust the idle & clutch cable & she'll be back on teh road. I probably can't go finish it until this weekend, but I am sooo excited. It's been a long 2 weeks w/o the ride. Thanks for all of teh help ya'll!
