question about aem cold air...
i searched but found nothing...i have a 00 cx hatch with an 00 b16. i can get the intake for the b16 i think...but when ever i see pics of them installed it looks as if it goes down into the sheet metal at the bottom of the bay...like there is a hole made for it. when i looked at mine i see no hole though? must i make the hole for the intake to fit?
well i have a 00 Si, and in mine there is a cut out that the intake goes through, i dont know maybe it was even designed for an aftermarket intake, cause it does go staight from my b16 down through the metal into the inner part of the wheel well.
you have to cut out that outline....i cut my friends for him with a dremel...hes a member on here EK-Tuned.....it was a simple task ..but thats what you have to do
Doesn't it run through the gap between your tranny and radiator on that year?
For example
through the gap...

through the stock opening...
PS: I'm aware these are not his actual set ups, for reference only

seems like on some its does but others look like it goes though an opening...seems like if it did stay in the main compartment there wouldn't be a need for a bypass valve...but then it wouldn't be a true cold air?!?!?

I know with my 93 hatch, there's an opening, but using an Integra CAI like Comptech or AEM, puts the piping through the gap, like pictured above. Whereas with a CAI for a 92-95 SOHC motor, it goes through the factory circle behind the headlight.
so the difference between the location is based on model car? if i get a gsr/itr it will go in the gap...and if i get one for the si it will go through the opening? is one better than the other?

No, I think that's just how it is for the 92-95 Civics, but for 96 up, I'm not positive, but I believe the AEM etc CAI systems all go through the gap. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, as I don't own an EK
