Rev it up (Charlotte, NC edition)
When I left this afternoon, I was in 10th overall out of however many had competed over the last 2 days. I had bad luck. The "pro" driver went out just before me in the drying conditions to knock over a second off the standard time. Had I been in the previous group ahead of me, I'd likely have been top 3 with my time. But as it was, it put me 10th (sorry Bowie, Mike, Shawn
).
And then it rained, with a capital "F". I picked up a push right before the finish line (thank you instrusive ABS) and that was that.
Good thing the Pro was this weekend.

I think I was in the same group as you but just didn't know because we've never met. I got screwed again with the pro driver setting an extremely fast index. I would have been 6 tenths slower if it had remained the same as before. I guess 6th overall isn't too bad though.
edit: and yes erik was still in the lead.

I was the tall guy wearing the "Don't go off again" t-shirt
And I too would have been ~.6 off the pro time had they not gone out and lowered the time just before I ran
Or if it hadn't rained and the course remained dry....
Or if I could drive worth a ****....

Well it was fun. Finally got to drive the mazdaspeed protege. Cool car! But the one out there had a few problems.. If my talon would drive that way (the way the power kicked in and how it stuttered and hesitated) I would be really worried. Then again, it did have the biggest line so I'm sure it's been trashed pretty hard.
As for the competition, forget excuses, I'll just say it up front. I suck at this two run deal! It's hard enough with only four runs at regular events!
Even now I still have about a 2 second spread between first and best run (90% of the time it's the fourth run). Gota work on that big time.

I went on Saturday and it had a lot more things to do than I first expected. I drove the hell out of the MazdaSpeed Protege all day. I didn't even drive anything else. I was supposed to do the Mazda 6 competition, the event I had originally signed up for. I didn't realize that the main competition was just around the Mazda 6; which sucked. I would have rather driven the MazdaSpeed as the main event, but oh well. I still had fun though...
There was PLENTY of time for everyone to get 4 runs. PLENTY of time. The course was down probably 2/3rds of the time. $40 for 2 comp runs is steep, but it was kinda neat to bitch-slap someone elses car around

I was there Saturday, i would of been 6th overall when i left but I hit a cone when i turned in for the 'box' up the hill, when i turned in the rear end stepped out and tipped over the turn in cone, doh!
My time was a 31.4xx w/ out the cone, not sure how that compares to your guys times on Sunday.

i was there. pulled 441 pts on first run. second run i hit a cone so i just went crazy. my friend was in the lead, novice class, when we left with 540pts. 2nd overall.... but that was on sat. noon. i had lots of fun. i know i could have broke the 500pt mark i had lots of room for improvement. it was worth the $40, but i would have loved more that 2 runs.
are we only allowed to do one event, can i goto the DC event and run??

I think I am the only person so far to get an X on my credential DURING the competion.
I had a great, and I mean GREAT first run going...the driver had just set a slower index, he came in, they put me in the car he did it in, and i was flying, came out of the second slalom hot and the car just wouldn't turn....plowed about a dozen cones, ripped the inner fender liner off....got bitched out by the steward for 5 minutes, as if i was there trying to tear up his car.
I was 7th when I left, anyone have anything close to a final results list?
the workers were saying that no one else had been able to actually damage a car during a run.

In Atlanta they told me never to come back to the test drive section.
In Charlotte I spun on my first run. I was suprised they didn't say anything to me when I got back in.

Erik Strelniecks won the Charolette event. That guy races in my local club and he is an incredible drive (multiple time national champ). I learn a lot just by watching him from the sidelines...
why are most of the top drivers from houston??? was that an easy track??
anyone willing to make a trip to DC with me and couple other people?? i just might do it if i dont have anything going on

Were you the one that was in the Novice class and still in the top ten? If so, when I left around 6ish Saturday you were still in 10th and another guy in the Novice class was still in 9th.
(You beat my ***: I didn't quite even break 400 pts; I suck at curves
). All in good fun though.
I was kind of disapointed with only getting two runs, but it was good fun just the same. I fell in love with the Miata they had to test drive, that thing was just so damn fun to drive!
There's definently something to be said for a topless with 50/50 weight distribution, a slick-shifting 6spd w/ LSD, and weighs less than some stripped hatches. (Chris, who just found his next weekend project/fun car
).

Well I was 7th when I left, so you have to be at least 8th or lower.
They should have held the competition on that practice course! Got a 22.290 on there (but I still wouldn't have won since the fastest of the day was 22.240 and the index at 21.4 or 21.8). Anybody lower that time on Sunday? I want to at least say I did good on the practice course!

Hell yeah, that was a fun course! Too bad they only let you run that one twice too
.
You would have beat my *** there too, I was only able to squeeze out like a 25.xx (can't remember exactly) on that one. (meebbee ah should jest stick to the 1320ft.

The practice course was a lot more fun. The course was completely wet when I drove it. I had the fastest time on that when I left on sunday with a 25.6 but they never wrote it down. My other run was a 25.9 on it. I'm sure it got faster as the course got dryer though. But thats not what counts so oh well.

I think it has more to do with the quality of drivers than track conditions....Especially when the top driver (who autocrosses BMW series) obliterates the pro times on a HOT, asphalt course. and of course James Rogerson is crazy fast for an old guy....
Anyone ever hear of Carol Shelby or Colin Edwards...don't make me sick Sandy squirrel on yah patnah!!!
What's really odd though is that in regional events Bollman usually places behind most of the other that he crushed in the houston event... must be the Mazda 6 - or maybe he slipped some hoosiers on for his run without anyone knowing. Anyways We'll probably start having to fear a Mazda 6 in the near future after the Laguna Seca "Championship"...Thanks alot MazdaRevItUp
