I just bought a ls/vtec teg and come to find out it leaks a little oil. the motor was built with a gsr head. i hear a lot of people saying they used a b16 head, is there any differance? the head was port and polished, with gude cams, and b16a5 internals. pistons are b16a5 also. crank was balanced, and all hardware was replaced. he claims her replace all the seals, cam crank ect... everthing is pretty much new. The motor only has about 2200 miles on it. he says the rings haven't seated completely. im just concerned cuz im not trying to get screwed. thanks for the help.
thanks alot guys
thanks alot guys
check the stainless steel lines that he put in, make sure they are in there and not the source of the leak, then check everything around the head, make sure thats ok, then check the back of the block where that other SS line is, make sure its ok.
check on the backside of the block beneath the throttlebody where the head mates to the block. check the vtec lines he added. check to see if theres any smoke coming out of the tail pipe when you accelerate or and black residue around the muffler. if hes sayin the rings havent seated yet (at 2200 miles) i would be suspicious. they should seat after an hour or so of first driving the car. if they arent seated they arent gonna now and you will be burning oil. if you dont see any leaks though on the block and you see no smoke then your prolly good and just check your oil consumption.
if you really want to know the condition of the motor do a vacuum test (should be around 20psi at idle) and do a compression test (should see 250 on all four with your compression)
