Lockwood Raceworks: hytech header skidplate/ front lower tie bar/ traction bars..... (56k eat a dic
I have been very worried about having a dumped/ slammed itr and a hytech header....
Here is my solution. Many thanks go out to joey @ lockwood raceworks for making this possible.
On with the pics of the work in progress:





















Type Rally is now ready for action!
And I even kept the factory splash guards!
Completely bolt-on!
.....next step is to add traction bars to the mounting points on the front bar. I just need to figure out the geometry. Emails have already commenced to Jimfab.....

And to answer everyone else's questions..... it should work with all hytech, smsp, jdm 4-1 or 4-2-1, and comptech headers (including their knock-off of the hytech header).
I am in the process of setting up a groupbuy if anyone is interested. Just post up in this thread and we'll go from there.

Wouldn't that make it worse? Lets say you hit the bar and the bar gets pushed upwards and dents your header.
Was there any reason why a nut was welded to the car instead of simply inserting a nutsert in the hole? I would think that the last thing you would want to do would be to sacrifice more ground clearance.

interesting idea, but I think thats just gonna make your ground clearance that much less and eventually be banging into the header anyway. plus the weight factor is gonna slow you down

Yes - Weight....BUT....This must have helped improve the stiffness of the car.
I've got the Rear tower bar, aswell as the standard front tower bar. But at the track the middle seems to wander around. I'm looking at putting a couple of bars or a cross section underneath in the middle to help try to keep it stiff.
What I realy want to know is....Does it corner any differently now?

this reminds me of the story about the pen that NASA developed...it cost $1 million. You see, your usual ball point pen doesn't write upsidedown or in antigravity, so NASA spent the bucks to create one that did.

I am on a 56K dial-up, and came to this thread expecting to "eat a dick" - instead, I find some lame **** about a header skidplate?
You should be docked a couple of points for false advertising.

Basically, if anything dents this skidplate - it would've really damaged the car. The steel is THAT strong..... weight = 18lbs and actually lowers the center of gravity + it's over the driving wheels for traction.....
As for the costs, where can you get a skidplate, traction bars, and front lower tie bar for $500? AND have them all be able to fit under your car in one integrated solution? Think about other valuable things like time. (Time = $) How long do you think turnaround is to get another header like this from Hytech? And how much will it cost you AGAIN to get another one, or to get your damaged one repaired? This skidplate paid for itself last night, imho. I would've fucked up the header on an unseen speed bump had I not this piece.

the fact that it acts as a traction bar as well is great (as are the other cool "side effects").

Assuming you were to run into an obstacle with that skid plate, the obstacle would still dent the header into the oil pan. I don't see what the point is if the header can still be damaged.
Then again if the header is protected, I still don't see what the point is, but to each his own.

im sorry but you are absolutley wrong. ive hit a speedbump i didnt see going 25 MPH. you see how low that is. the car came off teh ground. it saved my header.
