Default Going to buy HID's 4k or 5k?

I'm about to send in my order for a set of HID's from Xenondepot.com. I'm getting the 9006 HID set for my GSR but, I can't decide between the 4100k or the 5000k. What do most of you have? Is the difference between both just color? I know the 5k bulbs put out a bluish tint to them. Is the 4100k bulb just pure white or does it also have a hint of blue? Thanks

The difference is the color output. I have not used their kit but 4300k should be white/yellow/blueish. The 5000k should be pure white/bluish.

The output on the ground should be negliable between them.

my 4500k is about pure white. Remember that about anything over 4300k loses light.

go with the 5000k

even though the light output will be a little less you'll definately like the look much more.

Theyre much, much brighter than Shucks Rice bulbs. True, theyre 400 easy but worth every penny, IMO. To each their own though

Where did you buy your kit from? Also do you have a picture of them?

It does that with my reflector housing. I kinda wish I had projector, nice white light with hardly any yellow because of the way the light is reflected through the lens. I've tried two Philips 4300K kits and still comes out with hint of yellow, it does light up the nice road though. I currently have the 6000K Philips Ultinon, yes it's less bright then the 4300K but it's much brighter then the stock halogens. Probably for the performance and if you have a projector lights it'll be great. But for the looks, definitely the 6000K Utlinons or 6000K OSRAM's.

If you want true OEM Philips kit, go to http://www.autolamps-online.com, they're one of two authorized Philips HID kit dealers in the world.

5000k gets my vote! above 6000k loses light in exchange for color (blue/purple)

I agree... I was on the fwy the other night, and there was this E46 M3 who I guess had different HID bulbs... they looked like those Nokya blue ion bulbs from back in '97 I don't see why someone would change the stock bulb in that car.

What would be the closest to bmw hid's. I would like the pur white light with that flicker of blue from far and depending on what angle you are looking at them. I'm thinking 5000k, as it seems 4100 and 4300k are pure white.
TIA.

If you're worried about getting the "yellow" with the 4100/4300k, don't be. Here's a comparison pick. From left to right...s2k, my GSR, and G35. My car is the only one with an aftermarket HID kit (Philips 4300k).

Most people with 4100 or 4300k say that they do not have any yellow, but there a still a few members that do have a yellow colour, is this because of the brand of hid's? Does having 94-97 vs. 98-01 headlights make any difference?

This is due to the lightbulb housing.

The 94-97's are no different from the 98+. They're all made for halogen bulbs. In broad daylight, having the 4300k kit on makes it lose its white/blue tint, making it seem yellow. At night though, there is absolutely no yellow.

I dunno what you have but if you look at my 4300K Phillips bulbs from a distance, they look sorta blue like any OEM HID.

The blue flicker is because of the housings. If you take out your headlight assemblies and bend the shield inside about 1mm backwards it will give you a similar effect.

My setup is as follows...
Stock headlight housing (Not modified in any way).
Phillips ballasts.
Phillips H.I.D. D2S bulbs (4100k).
Upgraded stock headlight fuses to 20 Amp (this is a must!).
Output is exactly the same as my friends 2002 Lexus IS300 with H.I.D. headlights - Deep blue when you first turn on the headlights, and then bright white after a few seconds. It looks identical to the output of any other 4100k Phillips H.I.D. Lighting system on the road. There is no "yellow" color or tint seen from my headlights.
Very easy to mount in the engine compartment.
Bought mine on a group-buy last year from Trevor at http://www.visualdynamics.ca.

Pictures of my car...
http://gsr.streetracing.org/photo.html (You may have to cut and paste the link!)

If you have any questions, I will have to answer them later...I'm going to bed.

By the way, here is another thread for H.I.D. lighting.
