Did a rear brake swap[ on my 98 Civic EX. I used 95 GS-R(trail arm and all). I have replaced the MC and the PB, as well as putting on SS lines. Last but not least an AEM upgrade all the way around. I bled the system, and have little or no brakes. At first I had to go down about 3/4 before I would get any stopping, now the pedal drops to the floor. It drops when depressed after I have it in and start it, and comes back up when I turn the car off. I just don't have any stopping power if the car is running. I have looked all over the past posts, but can't find anything similar, someone please HELP.

umm have you tried turning the car on and pumping the brakes until they're hard yet? Kinda like bleeding brakes but not actually releasing the pressure. Try driving it afterwards, I've had that problem before but I kept pumping the brakes and it grabbed fine again.

so you replaced th emc and booster? I believe that there is a line running from the booster to the intake manifold. Did you reconnect it? You may have to pump the brakes a few times if you just bled them. However if the brakes are flaky, I WOULD NOT DRIVE IT ON PUBLIC STREETS.

 

Very good call kommon sense! DO NOT drive it out on public roads until you get your brakes straight!

 

Well, the car is still on jack stands(moving into week three).....How likly is it that the prop valve needs to be replaced. I've talked to a couple of people that say no....

 

did you bleed the brakes in the proper order?

You did a improper sequence........

Do it like this:

rear-right, front-left, rear-left, front-right

this has been overlooked a few times. and once by me. are the calipers on the correct side? if the bleeder is at the bottom, it WONT LET THE AIR OUT.
it sounds stupid but air has to rise up to get out. make sure the calipers are on the correct side.

 

You are the MAN. I feel like a dumbass with that being the problem. I pulled off the right front and took a look, sure enough a great big "L" looking back at me. Swapped the two, bled them, and what do you know brakes! I wonder how much longer it would have taken me to figure it out. I am glad you pointed that out to me. After about 2 and a half months I can drive my civic again.
