Default A bit OT: Oil pressure question

I have a quick oil pressure question. I have a 95 Jeep GC with about 104k miles. Just this past week I have started noticing a little oil burning smell, but i couldn't visually see any leaks. I got under the hood and power washed everything in order to try and find a gasket leaking somewhere, but I couldn't find anything. My question is what are some other possibilities, and what should or could I check next?

Thanks in advance

Well.....I really don't know a thing about jeeps, but applying the same logic to Jeeps as Hondas...I would guess that you're smelling blow by or something along those lines...with over 100K miles, it wouldn't be that much of a surprise. Higher mileage cars, especially older ones do have a tendency to burn oil...sometimes a good bit.

In this case honestly, I really don't know its value, but it may be more cost effective just to drive it till it dies, unless it has some sort of emotional signigicance in your life. Just keep adding oil if it's burning it, and just hope it holds out for a good long time. If you're good with engines...new rings would be in order...that's my guess any way.

Good luck,
Aj

Thanks It really isn't burning as much oil as I guess it coiuld be. BAout a half qt or so b/w oil changes (3000 miles). Whats really scaring me is that the gauge on the dash is reading 0 pressure. Would the car even run if there was 0 oil pressure? It does jump up a bit (the gauge) if I step on the gas real hard, but still only to about 40 psi, then back down to 0. I'm just afraid I'm going to end up blowing something if there's no oil flowing through there.

My hopeful guess is that it could just be a faulty sensor or gauge or something, but I would like to know if theres any way to check if there is oil pressure or oil flowing through without the sensor.

Could be a bad gauge or faulty sensor....if it was a Honda, I'd say check the oil pump gear, or just replace the oil pump all togather....though I'm not sure how hard or involving that is in a Jeep...

Good luck with it, what ever it turns out to be...

Later,
Aj

I think its gonna turn out to be the oil pump. Apparently a common probelm with the Grand Cherokees I just found out, actually Reid did

Thanks again

That's kinda what it sounded like, I just wasn't sure if jeeps had the same symptoms that hondas do...often different cars exert different symptoms for the same problem.

Later,
Aj
