T1R b-pipe rubbing but I got an idea...
Well I've recently put a Type One b-pipe on my car and boy does this thing rub the heatshield. At first the rattling was horrible but after some bending/cutting/punching/biting of the heatshield I've reduced it but it still vibrates/rattles a little. So I got to thinking, how about removing the heatshield or covering in something like this: http://www.inlinefour.com/spoonheatbar1.html or maybe I could even just wrap the exhaust in some header wrap. I figure I could find something similar to the Spoon tape at the local autoparts store so what do you guys think? Sound like a good idea? Think it would be better to simply wrap the heatshield or remove it completely and apply the tape in its place? Now chances are that the exhaust will actually be touching this stuff will it withstand the heat encountered when actually touching the exhuast? TIA guys!
I'm having the same problem, and it's rattling like crazy no matter how much bending I've tried. Today I'm gonna try cutting or maybe just removing the whole shield. I've heard of others removing there's with no problems. Or would it be better to wrap it or tape it with some sort of heat resistant tape? Holla
What purpose does the heat shield serve if it can be safely removed without issue? Seems like that would have been one of the parts Honda took off to save weight if it wasn't supposed to be there...

I think you hit this on the nose! I have heard of people being able to fix this problem by bending the heatshield.... Which heatshild? The one between the fuel tank and the B- pipe?

DO NOT BEND THE HANGERS.
it is much easier to just move the heatshields. If you bend the hangers, you will have problems with other exhausts in the future. I highly recommend that you do not do this.

so what about bending the hangers on the exhaust itself?
RA's who's not sure what the buzzing is from but is likely from the stripped interior.
FWIW, I suspect a lot of the rubbing issues and rubbing comes from an improper testpipe length.
G3-TEG who had the T1-R prototype which is now on my car experienced no rubbing issues whatsoever...but mine does and I attribute this difference to be the fact that we used different testpipes and when lined up side by side....
I seem to recall G3-TEG's being slightly shorter.

I wouldn't bend the hangers either, because first off, you're gonna lose ground clearance, which most of us don't have a lot of to begin with...secondly, it's a lot harder to bend those exhaust hangers than you might think without really screwing up the way it sits...
You should never have to remove a heat shield even though some prove to be unnecesary...especially one that is keeping heat out of your fuel tank...heatshields are made of very thin aluminum, and if you can't bend that either out of the way, or closer to the floor pan of the car so that it doesn't rattle, then the pipe is too close to the car to begin with. Take the pipe off, and with like a ball peen hammer , just wack the heat shield so it contours to the floor pan, that should take care of your problem...Either way...it's just my opinion, but I would advise against removing them completely, unless you have no other option.

So nobody has any ideas about the heat resistant tape? I'm seriously considering just wrapping my heatshield in the stuff.
if you really wanted to...I suppose you could remove the intrusive heatshield and just wrap the back portion of the midpipe with this stuff...:
and then use SS hoseclamps to hold it all in place.....
You can buy the DEI stuff at summit I think....or go directly to: http://speedfreaks.safeshopper.com/38/560.htm?851

Thanks for the link RA, I'm still trying to decide what to do. I'll keep you guys updated on how it works out.
For what it's worth, I bent the hell out of my heatshield but still couldn't get it flat enough against the surface of the car to keep it from vibrating against the pipe. I guess I'll try taking a ball peen to it or something, but is it gonna be a bitch unhanging the pipe without unbolting the two sections? I hope not, Oh well. We'll see what happens in a bit.
