Default Need for gas tank baffle (EG)?

Is there a need to baffle the gas tank in an EG when road racing? Anyone have pics of their setup?
Also, if it is needed has anyone used a weld in sump like from Jegs?
Did a few searches but they came up empty....
Thanks-Ben

We didn't do it. We ran the enduro series all last year & didn't baffle the tank. We would just keep running until the car stumbled on lefts (IIRC). (You could still go a few laps if you wanted to after that.) Once that happened, we would come in for driver change & fuel. The car would take approximately 8 gallons @ the fuel stop.

In other words, just make sure you have more than 1/8 tank @ the end of the race & it won't be a problem.

Anyone have anymore info on baffling gas tanks? Or using something like the gsr tank (which I believe is baffled?).

I get fuel cuts in high speed turns with ~1/2 tank... sucks when your're using a 10gallon VX gas tank.

my fuel cuts all the time in my gsr when i have about 1/3 a tank and hit some corners hard. anyone have any info on how to do this?

i have an extra pick-up arm that the fuel pump goes onto, i might try to weld a plate to that or something to baffle the fuel. any ideas?

I can tell you that an Integra tank is NOT a direct bolt-in affair. Other than that, just make sure you run at least a 1/4 tank. Is the VX tank different from the CX tank?

I had my welder buddy baffle my 89 EF STD tank for autocross because I needed to run 5/8s or more of a tank to keep from starving in long fast corners (ya, I know, its only autocross, but it did starve badly). After the baffling I was able to get by with 1/8 of a tank for 3-4 autocross runs before I needed to top it back up.

We followed the example that I found here on Honda-Tech (you'll have to search for yourself) of someone who baffled the tank of an EVO.

I have a 00 GSR gas tank on my 92 Cx, aside from vacuum hoses and adding length to the fuel level wires...it was pretty much a bolt in.

That's interesting. Every other account of someone trying that that I read had big problems. I wonder if for some reason the tanks vary by year and/or model. If that is true, then I'm on the hunt for a GSR tank!

i would assume all 94-01 integra tanks are the same. the only thing that was different was the fuel pumps.

No, I want a GSR tank because it can hold ~12 gallons of gas vs. the 10 that my Civic tank can hold.

Well, maybe. More likely I'd say it's oil fluctuation. Good, strong oil pressure is needed for VTEC to work, and a TON of B18C engines have problems where if you're low on oil, you get oil starvation in hard turns, as the oil sloshes to one side of the pan and away from the pickup. The fix for that is a baffled oil pan. I've had lots of problems with that in the past, and will not run another Honda motor on track without one. There's all kinds of possible engine damage that can occur from that as well, so it's just a peace-of-mind kind of thing.

that is interesting... my hatch (b18b w/ stock cx tank) hasn't ever cut on me... i've had it down to a gallon before.

It seems like for whatever reason there's some kind of variation in tanks or something. I've also never had problems, but I know at least Chad did.

I have all kinds of problems with my 89 Si. I have to run about 3/4 of a tank to keep it from starving. Not sure there's much I can do about it in STS, frustrating to waste that much weight though. Supposedly the 90-91s have much better baffled tanks, but are significantly heavier to begin with.

my 94 civic coupe ex abs has an 11.9 gallon tank. how i know, i've gone as far as an 11.6 gallon fillup at the pumps...and gas wasnt cheap when that happened. So you figure about 12.5 gallons total with reserve. I tend to cut out on hard right hand turns with anything less than 1/4 tank.

Well, my CX tank is a 10.2 gallon tank, but I filled up with 10.8 the other day. Even if there's a reserve or whatever, the Integra one is bigger. That'd be maybe 13.5 instead of 12.5.

I've got an '00 itr tank that I want gone too.....!

And anyone with tips on baffling a 91 si tank, please post up!

I've debated even removing the tank and going with a baffled fuel cell or something.....

Ken, where are you located? And skip the fuel cell, they're more problematic than you'd think.

ATL, and I'm willing to meet you halfway or something... I might even come to that VA meet someone was talking about.....

The fuel cell problems are why I haven't gone ahead with one yet!
