Aftermarket clutch shattering axle bearings??
My car was shaking pretty bad under heavy acceleration so I took off one of my axles and noticed that my bearings had shattered. I have an ACT 6 puck racing clutch. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone make stronger, aftermarket axle bearings? I talked to the guy at Raxles and he told me the only way to make the axles stronger is to increase the hub size but it cant be done on an R because of the ABS. Thanks...
if you use a he-man clutch you should expect to break things.
Especially the tranny and driveline components. The real-time team experienced this and went with a basic mugen clutch.

Bill,
man you're bein' harsh on the guy. How's the ITR ? Have you run at Cayuga this year yet? (remember the silver GSR when you had your faster ITR at Cayuga
)
I drove Brian's Civic at Top Power which had the ACT 6 puck. Man was that thing a bear to drive on the street...you haven't even released the clutch and the car lurches forward...no slippage whatsoever...you are either in or out...no grey area. That would be a pain in stop and go traffic on the 401 at 4pm. Anyway, Brian said that with the ITR pressure plate and the ACT 6 puck you get the balance of liveable clutch and one that can handle those 7000 rpm launches on slicks at Cayuga. The street organic ACT disc with springed centerpiece popped their springs according to Brian with the usual launches. So there you are deciding whether you want an indestructable clutch or a liveable one that may go if you hammer on it too much. The ACT 4 puck is for trailer queens. The Mugen is a 3 puck (don't know the material used)!! I hear the stage 3 Clutchmasters is the way to go.
cheers

I would recommend an ACT plate and either:
A. stock disc if you dont race a lot
B. Unsprung full face disc
You will get the holding power you want, but with the nice stock
engagement. In my case, any sprung disc will pop the springs out
within 15k miles so if i happen to use one i make sure to take it out
early.

Hey Michael,
ITR is a little beat-up right now had some problems getting used my BFG R1 at shannonville (also getting used to the track), ran off a few times being really aggressive.
Ah, Cayuga i can't remeber the last time i took it down the strip. My fastest stock in the new R was 14.6. What are you running now? BTW i ran into Tony the Tiger(He's got B's and Rollerwaves etc..) along 7, you sleeper GSR's. he scared the crap out of me with his speed.
I think for strip applications you have to find a balance between initial bite and holding power (does that make sense?). Do you guys (drag racers) change your bushings to provide a' little more driveline give?
Anyways maybe we'll see you on the cayuga road couse @ Dark knights?
