Default TODA spec B cams. What valvetrain can or should I use?

I have TODA Bs. Currently, I have ITR valvesprings (intake and exhaust).

I have been told that I can replace the inners with Portflow inner valvesprings and I will be okay. The person who told me said that Tom advised him that it would be okay to run the stiffer inner springs on TODA Bs up to 9.5K. I do not know this person personally, he was trying to sell me his valvetrain setup...

I have also been told that I should use ONLY TODA valvesprings.

As you can tell I need advice. I plan to rev my motor to 9k rpm (I believe that is what TODAs make power to, maybe a little more).

BTW, I have a b17a that I am going to install CTR pistons in that this TODA setup would go with.

I would love to drop $360 on valvetrain at TODA, but if there is a cheaper (and as safe) alternative, I may take that route.

I want to know what you suggest or what you know. If you have TODA cams (Bs speicifically) what are you using for valve train?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Jeff you monkey, get the Toda valvetrain. You know that you want it.

In all actuality, I think the cheapest valvetrain that you will be able to pick up and use safely on that would be skunk2. Crower may make something that will work, but you would have to send them your lift/duration specs and see if they make something that can withstand revs of 9k+ with that lift/duration.

I might come down this weekend if I can get my charging system problem resolved, and I will definately be down there next weekend. You should stop by Dan's and say hi.

Later,
BR

Personally, I prefer the Toda valve springs, but if you want to go a cheaper route, contact Erick at Erick's Racing, he has a valve spring setup for Toda cams that is a lot less than the Toda's.

Thank you, I will give them a call. Do you know where I can find that number or do you have that number?

I have not yet ruled out TODA valvesprings, but am interested in an alternative.

Thanks again.

Jason,

I have considered Crower. Dan doesn't think that I should buy anything but TODA. I am just seeking possible alternatives as money is a factor (now - AFTER I bought the TODA Bs). I am going to call Erick's Racing as someone made that suggestion.

I will do my best to stop on by (next weekend). I may be busy that weekend as my sister is coming home from college and my cousin is coming into town to visit me.

I will say that Dan's house was on my to do list this weekend (his block is supposed to be coming back, right?). I will not be here this weekend, I am going to Sunriver on a family trip. I may come Sunday, will you still be here? I will call Dan's once I roll into town.

Good luck with the charging issue. Drive safe, Memorial Day weekend, always hella cops from you to me and vice versa (you probably already knew that though). I just know how you drive bro.

If not this weekend, I will most likely see you next weekend.

I agree with Dan that you should pick up the Toda valvetrain for those cams, but in times of dire need, and low flow, you can try and find something else that will work.
I have seen some ads for used Toda valvetrain around as well. I just cant remember where I saw them. Just keep an eye out and you will find something that can handle those beasts.

Dan's block should be done and ready to build by this weekend. They just had to line bore the mains and they started that on wednesday, so it should be done for him by friday.
I plan on getting down there to help him build it and do the swap this weekend, so I will probably be there on sunday.
I am also going to be bringing down some more of my stuff for my project to work on a little also and have it ready for next weekend when I come back to get my project done with. It will be an interesting couple of weekends.

I know about the holiday weekend and how many cops will be out so I will be taking it easy. I have been taking it easy anyway since I am blowing through so much oil right now. It takes me 2 quarts to get from my house to Dan's house... At least until next weekend

Later,

a set of portflow inner springs is 80 bux. you should be able to use that and rev to 9k... then some time down the road you can put in the todas...
