3" Intake - Too large for a 98' LS?
Is a 3" diameter short ram too large for a 98' LS? I know that the velocity of air entering your engine is important . I think the AEM short air intake is a bit smaller like 2 3/4" or something. Any opinions? Just would not want to bolt on something that would make me lose power.
Also, how much power can you really expect to gain from either crankshaft or accesory pulleys. There are a buch on ebay and they all sound very attractive!

I don't think it would be a good idea. If your LS is basically stock, it won't much for you. A 3" short ram gets its best performance at the upper end of the rev range, and the LS is cammed for midrange.
Accesory pulleys can net you a few horses - maybe two or three. I have heard that aftermarket crank pulley can be dangerous - they lack the harmonic balancers of the stock unit, so they can cause excessive crank wear.
If you search for pulley info, you'll turn up hundreds of threads discussing them.
...and welcome to H-T.

well a 3inch CAI will not perform as well as a 2.5-75 would just because of the stock motor, compression, head, & cams.
now if you got lets say...... hum.... portflow head, 62404, valvetrain package and 10.8 cr or higher then a 3" CAI would definatly breath better in the upper RPM range. If you do plan on doing somthing like that then getting the 3" CAI now would be fine with your stock motor.
