Default Wondering if you guys could help me out here?

I'm going to be purchasing an engine to swap into my '92 civic dx hatch. I've decided to go with a B18b. Now theres a place by my house that sells engines. I was there the other day and they said they would sell me a '95 B18b (USDM) full swap for $1600 CDN (apx. $1066 US). I went to go look at the engine, it looked alright but when I checked the dash of the teg (it was still in the car) it read 240 000KM.

Now what I want to ask you guys is, should I still pick this up since the price is so cheap, (I should be able to lower the price even more) or wait and find another one?

Thanks ahead of time.

Thats alot of miles to have on an engine that you are going to swap into your car and beat on daily most likely. If you can get it cheap and build it up then go for it. My opinion is that if you are going to spend all your time and effort and money on a motor with high mileage to put in your car, it just doesnt sound worth it to me, unless you are gonna take the motor apart and build it up properly before hand.

Yeah when I heard the price for it I was like, "Wow thats a good price", but than was a little turned off by the mileage on it. I was thinking about building it up since I can get it for so cheap, or maybe see the next time I go in if they have any other B18bs (that was the only one there last time).

My advice would be to not rush into anything you have a 100% good feeling about it. Especially when you are talking about money that you prolly worked really hard for.

well most ls swaps go for bout 2K full swap...so this is half price but miles r high...well if u end up rebuildin the whole thing then whats the point figure u got 1000bux for build up and it will run way better than a normal stock ls swap at that ....just make sure u do everything right

So what am I gonna need to replace?

Pistons, rods, rod bolts, valves, cams, and sleeves?

And I mean if someone didn't take care of this engine, than it has had a lot of time to develop some really nice wear over the years.

But I was talking with the guy and I could probally get the price down to $1200CDN (apx $800US).

BTW I'm probably going to go turbo in the future anyway, so I guess a build up was going to happen either way.

Yeah I'm really temped to buy it because its so cheap. And yeah I'm sure I'm gonna love it, right now I'm rock'n a D16Y7, heh big difference.

But if I build this motor with this kinda mileage, are we talking run like new, reliable and long lasting because I would hate to spend all this time with it and have big problems down the road.

Correct on it being obd1, like you said, just make sure it gets rebuilt. As well have the tranny checked and the synchros replaced.

I agree with him. You have to relize is this is a full swap. I would like to see if the tranny shifted good no grinds, but if it did you are getting a good deal. The bottom end could be worn and need rebuilding yes, but you get motor, ecu, tranny, clutch, axles ...everything. The most that it might need rebuilding wise would be bottom end stuff...bearing and rings maybe oversized pistions and a bore. I rarely have seen anything wrong in an ls head...maybe need a valve job. You say you might go and build it and if you do what better one to get than this one for cheaper and your going to replace rods, pistons and bearings anyways. Just my thought. Good luck with your buy!
