Whats up all. I'm new to the board. And, have a question for the tech guys on this board. I have a Purple '00 GSR (plate#GRAPEAPE). That has the following upgrades: AEM CAI, Comptech 4-2-1 header, Greddy EVO cat-back, Eibach Sportlines, ITR front strut bar, & Spoon rear-upper strut bar.
A local roadrace/autocross guy I know asked me if I wanted to buy the cams out of his '01 PY ITR.

Since he recently stepped up to a full Toda Spec B ECU/CAMS/GEARS etc. According to him, the cams are "plug and play" and he claims my GSR will make roughly 10 more hp and be overall more aggressive.

1. Is this true?

2. Are there any drawbacks to having these cams on a GSR head with no valvetrain upgrades if the redline is still stock?

3. Will I need a fpr?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I'd really appreciate the answers. Thanks.

Yes, you can basically just throw the cams in and notice a good increase in performance. But to get optimum power out of those cams you would need to get Type R valvesprings and retainers and a custom ecu to let you rev above the stock 8100 rpm limit. Cams gears, fuel pressure regulator and dyno time would also be very beneficial. Also...the powerband will be a little weak in the midrange due to your stock gsr manifold, so get the skunk 2 type r manifold, and put your vtec crossover at around 5300. These are the basics...you'll definately gain power by just installing these cams, but a lot more power can be made by doing all of the above.

 

Yes it will work, and 10HP sounds realistic. It would be better with springs, retainers, valves and an R ECU for the higher x-over and better fuel maps though. And when you start doing that, I would just go for aftermarket parts.

 

My problem, as you so kindly put it, is that you are trying to present yourself as someone you clearly are not.

But doing this, you come across as somewhat of a flake. Primarily due to the totally un-original paralell you are trying to draw.

As far as what you are looking for here is concerned, the stuff will bolt in and work.

I run my car against the local hybrids and a few ITR's in my area, and want to find ways of gaining an edge on some local cars. So please, let it rest. You'll see me around.
