Jaime Houseman - Hard Working SCCA National Champion, Gear Manufacturer, and by reputation amongst good guys A Good Guy - emailed me this morning that my gears would be ready to ship early next week. Whoa.
I gave him barely enough time to get them done on his standard approximate lead time by the Rose Cups, and have been worrying about what to do if he made it, or didn't make it. How many times did I want to be into the gearbox during the last week before the race? I've been watching my competition pretty carefully - how much do I need the Mugen LSD and the closer gears?
Uh, Duh! I need them. I won't be able to isolate the relative benefits, but I have serious expectations of both.
Sure there can still be problems, but I'm pretty confident that I'm doing business with the right guy, and feel more comfortable than usual in thinking that things will be right first time.
Scott, who is quite happy to have been surprised by this...BTW, I've made up my mind in the last week that I will NOT be removing my heater/defroster. My friend Chris gave up a National victory last weekend because he had to pit for a windshield wipe because he couldn't see a damned thing...not worth 10 lbs...not worth 20 lbs....

Every so often I hear somebody talk about defroster tape, but I've never seen it used.
Alot of people tell me that none of the RainX / FogX type products work acceptably on the inside of the windshield.
At a Pro race I saw a few teams using a static-cling clear film on the inside of the windshield. Don't really know how that stacked up.
Scott, who thinks that when he needs the heater/defroster he really needs it...just have to quit thinking about it the rest of the time...

Why thank you for being happy for me Dr. Neo. I'm happy that my happiness has made you happy. Now WE'RE happy.
This is the kind of happy talk that first drew me to this forum, before all the fighting and arguing that has ensued since shortly after my arrival. While I'm at a loss to understand this, I chose not to let it upset me.
I plan on glorious victory, and I KNOW that this time Roger Penske WILL DEFINITELY be calling. I'm currently preparing a press kit with flatteringly retouched photo's of myself and the most sympathetic and yet modest telling of my racing lifes story.
At the TC / HC race at Thunderhill I will be hosting a full hospitality suite with catered treats and superstars of pop culture - but do stop by (you darling little people), there's always enough room for another person to swing from my *******.
While I'm sure many racers will be pestering me for advanced driving tips, I'm sure I'll have time to make with the innane pleasantries with visitors...I'm sure it will be a giant thrill for you people.
Scott, who's just lovin bein' me....so secksy....so fast....

Thanks for the invite... I will bring my gloves so not to damage the jewels.

In April I had my first "overall" win but it wasn't because I was the fastest....... The leader (GT4) needed to pit to clear the windsheild.
I have been racing the wetcoast for 7 years and defog/heaters are the last things to remove. IMHO

Who would rather lose the 15 lbs on the driver (that would help the corner balance as well. )

Yes sir! Happy to help, proud to serve. Makes me want to break in to song... "I'm so happy, oh so happy, do-be-do-be, be-do-be, be-do-be, and gay!." Ahhh, they sure don't write songs like they used to.
I'm also not clear about why all the acrimony around here. Jeez, you miss a day or two on H-T, and few locked and deleted threads later, and everyone seems to be pissed off at the world, and I don't have a clue why. No matter, things will swing back the other direction eventually.
Casey, who IS genuinely happy for Scott, because Scott is executing a plan, a well-designed plan, one that feeds into the master plan, of going faster, of great fame and forture, of getting the call from Penske or Newman or Cunningham, whoever, of taking the nearly fatal hit off the GFCP, of growing a larger *******, and of being able to share stories to those of us in H-T'ville, so we can say, "yeah, we once knew that guy, when he was just getting started, and when everyone used to be happy.... "

"Dude, you just took the most acid of anybody I've ever seen in my life" - Cheech & Chong.
"Dude, the bigger the hit I take off the GFCP, the bigger my nutz get" - RR98ITR
Yes, it IS a well designed plan....
Scott, who keeps a shopping kart full of newspapers and plastic bags nearby just in case he has to go to Plan-B....

Actually, Plan-B has the higher odds of actually succeeding.
Scott, who just stopped to consider who or what would be hanging from my nutz on Plan-B...I'm gonna work harder on Plan-A....

I expect to relate that increased lockup (58/20 kit vs stock ITR T2) is beneficial in terms of getting more tractive work out of the outside front, and not getting spin induced heating on the inside front which I believe is responsible for some of my push problems in Portlands T3.
Other than that all I hope to relate is that it installed without trouble and works without problem.
Scott, who is interested to see the final numbers...not the dollars (I've seen those - bye bye)...will it be a half a second?...a second...if it's too much I'll have some people after me with weights and bolts...

on a side note, I saw a CRX that was racing at a supporting race at the Vancouver Indy that used a rather innovative way to defrost his windows. He ran piping that collected heat from around his exhaust pipe, and piped it up through floor, and into a long pipe along the bottom of his windshield that had a bunch of holes in it. Then a little computer case fan inline with the pipe. I guess it worked really well. Kinda ghetto, but simple, and probably pretty light weight.
another side note, I noticed the Australian V8 supercars actually use the window defroster lines (like on the rear window) on the front windsheild. Seems like that would work great. Weigh a lot less, and be very light weight. Something to look into.

I suppose you could contact Jamie Houseman at Houseman Autosport, who's email address is something like jaime@housemanautosport.com , which you can find on his website which is something like http://www.housemanautosport.com....
BUT IT WOULD BE WRONG. Taking what I've learned about intellectual property rights over the last year here on Honda-Tech, I would take extreme exception to you or anyone having Jaime make you custom gear sets for your ITR gearboxes. You should order them from me, because I have clearly established the right to sole domain over them. I was the clearly the first person in the history of the planet to think of these particular ratios for this particular box, and hence you would have to be of extremely low character to purchase them from anyone but me.
Now if you're the kind of scumbag who would balk at paying me the $750 dollars per gear pair that Jaime charged me, plus my markup of 50%....well, you're a rotten ##%$&.....<taking anti-psychotic prescription>....
Yeah, sure....whatever....tell Jaime that Scott sent you.
Scott, who suggests that unless you're really comfortable with what you think right now, and what I've worked out for myself, that maybe you wait till I run mine and report on how my ratios worked out...it's alot of money and even a small error might be dissappointing...<meds really kicking in now...feeling better>...

Ken, you know that that is the absolute last thing you should be thinking about right now.
Quit wasting money and just drive! You can make your custom 7-speed sequential hydraulic tranny later.

Damn, the ATS 3,4,5 gearset is sounding much... umm.... cheaper!
I just wish someone could testify as to the effectiveness of them at autox/ road course/ drag, etc.....

Ken - I hope you're kidding. If not, then why don't you just keep your stock gearbox and send me $50 for all the good it will do you.
Just forget about the ATS gear set - it's not the answer to any problem I can think of.
You've got my spreadsheet - take the time to study it, play with it, and you should be able to zero in on an answer to whatever problem you're trying to solve.
Scott, who'll tell his gearbox story after the Rose Cups in mid-June....
