Default Detailed How To: Remove Rear / Back Seat From An EH Hatch!

Tools Required: 10mm, 17mm Sockets.
Total Time: 10 Min.

BEFORE:

STEP 1: Pull up on release ***** on both folding seats.

STEP 2: Fold both seats down.

STEP 3: Pull out the clip pin on both sides of the rear seats, where the seats pivot.

STEP 4: Slide both seats outwards towards the side panels, so the seats are released away from the center metal brace thing.

Here's pics of what the hole looks like on the sides of the seats, and the center metal brace that goes in the holes.

STEP 5: After releasing the seats from the center metal brace thing, lift them up at an angle and slide the rest of the seats out by moving it towards the center, so the pin on the sides of the seats are released from the holes in the side panels.

STEP 6: Remove both back rests from the car.

Here is a picture of the hole in the side panels where the pins from the seats went into.

STEP 7: Locate and unscrew the 10mm bolt holding in the seat cushion.

STEP 8: Pivot the seat cushion up gently, as you push the seat belts through the holes in the cushion.

STEP 9: Locate the 2 metal "hooks" on the bottom of the seat cushion, they are on opposite sides of each other. Then pivot the seat cushion up and out so the hooks come out from their holes.

STEP 10: Unscrew the 4 bolts holding in the seat belt buckles using a 17mm socket.

AFTER:

WEIGHT SAVINGS:

Rear back rests:

Weight: ~ 20 lbs.

Rear seat cushion:

Weight: ~ 7 lbs.

TOTAL WEIGHT SAVINGS: ~27 lbs.

I'm assuming you calibrated the scale with the plywood and cans on it, right?

Good post. Nice red hatch there. I've had my back seats out for years. And my front passenger seat is usually pulled out too.

So...now nobody can sit in the rear of your hatch and you saved 27 pounds: not enough weight to drop your ET any significant amount (.027 seconds if you're a driver who can replicate his best passes with 100% precision).

What's the point?

Excellent writeup and brilliant pictures though .

I see what you're saying, and it makes sense, I didn't remove my seats to shave off ".027 seconds" I did it because i really have no use for it. My friends don't like sitting back there, and removing it didn't cost me any money. This is purely opinion based... but, i kind of like the striped hatch look, so i didn't hesitate to remove it.

And thanks for the comments!
