My Chltons manual says 650-750. Mine idles anywhere from 700-1000. It really isn't that big of a deal, as long as it stays there. I have my idle adjust as low as I can get it and then I back the screw up a 1/4 turn. Idles niiiice and smooth now.

If they`re that mild that you have to question they`re exsistance in your motor, then they are`nt big enough to affect idle. I have a hefty set of cams in a B18c and a set of 80LB dual valve springs and still have the stock idle, so I doubt what you`re experiencing has anything to do with the valvetrain. Adjust your idle or throttle cable.

There is a small idle set screw on the throttle body, turning that adjusts the idle. If you can't get it down by doing that check every hose for a minor (MINOR) leak. Goodluck.

Got to where the cable wheel is on the TB and see is there is a lil bit of play in the actual cable itself, there should be, otherwise your idle will be too high.

You will lose gas mileage, there is NO advantage to a higher idle, atleast to my knowledge...Good that you partialy isolated the problem, now get it another 300 down and you`re set

If the throttle butterfly is completely closed and the idle is too high, then either you haven't adjusted the idle screw enough or there is a vacuum leak somewhere.
I doubt your mods would increase the idle, unproperly tuned mods and things like incorrectly set TPS and inproperly bled coolant would more likely cause fluctuating idle.
Try cleaning out the IACV with carb cleaner, haven't done it myself but I have heard it helped some people.

i talked to my mechanic, and he told me that its because of the choke. When i first turn it on, its high around 2k, but after warming up a little bit, it drops back down to around 1100, but it sounds like i need to bump it up to idle around 1400-1500 becuase the bigger lobes on the cams.
Duuuuuuude, who is telling you this maddness? You don`t need to increase your idle to get better performance out of your cams. You don`t even know if you have cams yet anyway, but either way, increasing your idle will reap you NO benefit whatsoever...
i didnt say i need to increase the idle to increase performance, im saying i may need to increase it so it doesnt get too low and stall out. tomorrow im taking my car to my mechanic to get it checked out, while im there, i was going to take the valve cover off and check the cams , but im not sure how to tell them appart from the stock cams, but what do u mean i dont know if it has cams? there crane cams
thats why there is vtec.. so you can still have that nice idle.
i have CTR cams and ITR/Portflow valvetrain and my idle is at about 700
turn yours down... my car will still run at like 500rpm
