maybe the brown top you are referring to is the dohc zc engine found in japan or the 1st gen integ engines. They are d-series and 1.6 liters. The zc from japan have around 135 hp while the usdm one has 110hp. hope i answered your question.

Browntop is around 112 hp, Vacume Advanced Distrib
Blacktop is around 118, Electronic Advanced Distrib those are the 2 major differences...
If your trying to mount a black top distrib on a browntop its a PITA... one of the bolt holes I dont think mounts up and you have to fab something. But you get electronic advance and options for Zdyne and better fuel management.
