The best oil for Rs
I've been using Redline ever since 3000 miles, I can't say I feel anything different in performance, but I do get less odor when rev the car hard.
I switch to Mobil 0-30w after the dealer put in some junk oil and I am ready to go back Redline 5-30w....unless someone can tell me which one is better or if there are other good oils out there.
I would also change the transmission oil, I've been told to go with Motul. But I am confused of which type of Motul oil to use. If I am not mistaken, the brake and transmission both use the same oil, right? If anyone uses Motul oil, please recommend me which type I should use, or if there is any alternatives as I will go tune-up my car this coming weekend.

well i personally use mobil 1 5w30 no special reason though. Im pretty sure a lot of other board members use it too. Motul makes motor oil and brake fluid, im not quite sure about tranny fluid though. They might use the 5w30 motor oil though in the transmission.
Don't put engine oil in your transmission. It's OK for emergency use, but not for long term. A lot of Honda models use engine oil as tranny oil, but not the ITR...

i use AGIP 10w60 full synthetic. got the idea from a italian scca racer.
We have two R's, and have always used Mobil 1 10W-30. I know some may contest it, but I believe 5W-30 is too thin. I've seen posts where 5W-30 users have complained about burning oil, and I've never had that problem myself. As a matter of fact, I honestly don't recall hearing of any R with 10W-30 Mobil 1 burning any. I generally change the oil every 3-3,500 and every time I do it's as "golden" as when I put it in. Needless to say, I'm very satisfied and can't see myself changing anytime soon
Correct me if I'm wrong guys as I'm definitely no expert.

5W30 like it says in the manual, either Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Synthetic.
Nothing wrong with Redline except the price...

That's a good point as I believe the viscosity is basically the same once the engine is hot. However, I do believe the 10W-30 protects the engine more during warm-up/start-up periods. Perhaps that is when 5W users burn it. Anyone able to clarify?

I will continue to use 10W-30 due to my personal experience.

Finally got rid of that last avatar.
I'll see how the 10-30 Mobile 1 works out, but I'd like to get the 5-30 in for the
dyno session (just in case I REALLY need those last 2 hp).

Since the viscosity is less with the 5w at startup, i would think that it flows better when cold and can distribute quicker throughout engine. but i would think you'd want something thicker for more protection, especially when cold (since the engine is pretty much drained of oil). so which is better, thicker oil that protects but doesn't "spread" so easily or one that "spreads" better but doesn't protect as well? can't have both i guess.
I use Amsoil 0w30 and haven't experienced any problems. I've been to 2 weekend track events and was pleased. Anyone have any problems with running 0w30's?

I use Motul 300v 15w-50 (motorcycle guys love this oil and weight), I track my car often.
In the summer the "15w" doesn't mean much, and remeber 50 does not relate to weight rather the ability not to shear at high temp and also it's flow rate and consistency at that 'High' temp.
Transmisson oil = Always Honda MTF
Brake = Motul 600

Synergyn LTS 3W-30 by Dyson oils. Awesome compaired to Mobile 1, with the synergyn I lose about half a quart every 2500-3000 miles depending on how much I race the R.
