Default Installing Stereo and Programming Alarm Remote

Sup All!

I just got a 2000 Civic EX last week. I searched through the archives but can't seem to find the answers to these simple questions. Hopefully someone here can help me out.

1. What is the easiest way to get the factory stereo out? I took out the 2 screws on the bottom console in the middle of the dash. I can't seem to get anything to budge after that. Am I missing something somewhere? I have done this many times and it was always a lot easier in the past. Advice?

2. When I got the car, they only gave me 1 remote for the factory alarm. I was able to get a 2nd remote off ebay(matching fcc numbers) for cheap. I have looked online but I can't seem to find programming instructions for the EX, only for the LX. Anyone know were I can get these instructions? (Yes, I know factory alarms suck but don't have the cash to swap it out right away.) Also, do I have to reprogram my old remote as well?

Thanks everyone for your help!

ok for the stereo. check under the stereo, there should be screws undereath it, also u could get it out by bending the security thing around the stereo. it has soft metal pins bent into it on the sides between the console and the stereo.... GL

try unscrewing the middle console surrounding the stereo, it runs up from the floor and meets the dash

OK here ya go. I'll give you step by step instructions for a stereo install.
Step 1: Remove Glove box (2x 8mm hex screws)
Or you can just squeeze the glove box untill you can drop it past the bump stops.
Step 2: Remove plastic panel below steering colomn (3 philips)
Once screws are removed it will pull out. Don't worry you do have to give it a good pull.
Step 3: Remove bottom of center console (5x philips and 1 8mm hex screw)
This is the piece above the cupholders. There are two screws above the cupholders and two on either side of the panel.
Step 4: Remove 4 8mm hex screws that hold the instrument panel in. These are brass.
Step 5: Pull instrument panel out.
Again, just give it a good pull.
Step 6: Remove all the wire harnesses allowing the instrument panel to be removed from the car.
Step 7: Remove the three philips screws holding the climate control module in place.
Step 8: remove the two screws on each side that hold the factory stereo in.
That is all the removal!
I suggest using a dash kit for that professional look. They are only 16 dollars at your local Good Guys or Circuit City. I also suggest a wire harness from the same place. Once you have the wire harness just match the colors from the stereos harness to the harness that you got from the local audio store. One tip: If you plan on installing a very expensive stereo use straps to secure it to the car. My in-dash dvd player is bolted and straped to the dash frame making it impossible to steal without dismantling the dash. I hope this helped.

Thanks for the reply BP!

****....I didn't know I had to take the whole dash apart. Guess that's what I'll be doing this weekend.

You dont have to take off the whole dash. Just take off the piece that is under the climate control and above the center console. After that there will be two more screws.. take those off. Then from the inside. Push the whole climate control console forward until you can't anymore. Do not force it though. Then check for the metal pins and bend them so you can pull the console out. After that, pull the console completely out and unplug all the things connected to it. Then you can put in your new stereo with the neccessary products. (Installation kit and harness)

Yeah man actually you do have to do all that to remove the stereo. You obviously didn't read his original post correctly, you are describing a civic 01+.

Alright....Thanks everyone for the info.

It just seems like a lot of work just o swap the stereo's. Oh well. I'll set some time aside tommorrow and get that done. I got a guage bezel also so I can install that since I will have the everything off anyway.

Anyone have any advice about the alarm remote?

Thanks again.
