Default B18C1 in a CRX? opinions...

I was thinking that since everyone is doing the B16(which is still an option) I was thinking about putting in a B18C1 in my CRX and using a YS1 tranny out of the 92-93 Integra GSR. Also, I was wondering if it might be possible to turbo charge a CRX and STILL be able to keep A/C. I just graduated from college so money hopefully won't be that big of a deal in about 5-6 months(I plan on doing the swap this winter).

If you have the money it should be no real problem. Sure you can keep the AC with a turbo. I want a B18c1 in my CRX but thats alot of extra money for me just for the extra 200cc over the B16A. Of course it'll always be able to go faster and have better torque.

Don't do it to stand out though, if you want to stand out then swap it with an AWD system. Do it because you love the power.

if you can find a deal on everything go for it...otherwise save some of your money. i graduated with a BS last may and i havent even been able to get an interview, let alone a job. ive got a BS in mechanical engineering tech with a minor in mathematics and i am a part time janitor. thats why i stuck with the d-series stuff. good thing i paid for college already...never took out a loan.

that would be about the best tranny though, does that have the optional LSD or is that just the JDM ys1?

He is talking about the usdm GSR YS1 tranny (no LSD).
It might be hard for you to source that tranny by itself, however you wouldnt have to deal with the trouble of a cable to hydro tranny conversion that way.

the cheapest thing to do is to get a b16a complete swap first, then buy a b18c. Because if you go and buy a b18c swap all you can use out of it is the block and head. you can use the electronics, but have to get a jumper harness

Its alot harder to change over to a b18c if you are going from D-series to b18c.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Id say get a b20 long block to use with the tranny. Trade your tranny and some cash for one with lsd if it doesn't already have it. Money isnt an issue regardless... the b20 long block is normaly $1,000.00+ cheeper then a b18c long block. And is much better for turbo lots of torque to get you through boost lag city.

All motor get the b18c

I keep hearing B20 with GSR head...but the only problem with this is I hear there are drivability issues going with an LS/CRVTEC setup...this is going to be my daily driver.

might have to get half radiator if you wanna go turbo. the smallest exhaust manifold i believe is the log style, prolly least efficient for power but hey, it works. i put a b18a1 in my 89 civic sedan lx which is quite similar to your car, although i didn't keep the A.C.

Another good alternative would be to use a B18c bottom end with a b16a head. That way you retain the oil squirters and also have a bottom end that is meant for high rpm. The B16a head is a better head than the B18c and much cheaper. FWIW, A boosted B16a alone will be fast enough if it is done right, especially in a crx.

how about a b20, no vtec, and a turbo. the turbo will be happier without the vtec swith anyways.

I think the USDM YS1 is a good choice, it runs at a lower rpm in 5th gear than its JDM counterpart does(a really nice feature if youve ever driven a JDM B16A for an extended time). However, finding it will be the challenge, the 92-93 GSR isnt a very common car to begin with, so there arent a whole lot of parts for them floating around in salvage yards. If you can find one in good shape, itd definitely be worth getting. Also, the B17 motor that the 92-93 GSR came equipped with has more torque than the B16A did, but is otherwise a B16A, only bored out a little more at the factory.

Holy miss information batman .

It is no harder to swap in a b18c than it is a b16. Yes you have to convert to obd1, but that is easy. You actually don't even need to convert, you can getthe zdyne and stay obd0 if you want.

Retaining AC is easy, just depends on the manifold and downpipe you get.
