Default Whats with the Animosity?

This is getting frustrating and upsetting. Why in the hell must every discussion turn into some arguement?

Everyone has seemed to have changed from this time last year. If there are some issues that need to be worked out then put them out here. I am tired of the bullshit backhanded remarks and generall grief on the board.

RJ delete or lock this if you want but this **** needs to get out in the open for discussion.

Frankly its unhealthy. I do not know what to say to people sometimes because I don't know where they stand. That is not a good way to be.

Ditto - I thought about starting a thread about this very issue last night but didn't have the energy to be the resident liberal again. It's not a new thing that people do/say goofy things here and at the track but the responses have been particularly unhappy recently...

Can't we all just get along?

I agree with you Morgan, this forum has went to ****... and it starts at the top..

RJ - Whats up with you latley, George and Chris B hit in on the head, you have been coming off in the last month or so as and Arrogant, Stubborn No it all and abusive on top of it, I know Ryan is not like this in person, but this RJ character is a jerk sometimes.

Morgan - When did you become a mod in the RR Forum did I miss that ?

The whole Cobalt/Carbotech thing... every seems to be out ro ruin a good thing, Just like last year when we had Speedvision and NASA at VIR Full back to back everyone was complaing about one group doing this and another group doing something else... I guess it's too much a good thing.

The little bickering that is going on, I know since a certian thread last year there have 2 groups on this board that do get along, well guys grow the F up, agree to disagree and stop turning every thread that you are in, into a he said she siad, no that shirt is blue no you idiot it is green....

Forgive the ignorance, but what "tension" is the HC supposed to be feeling?

things are changing with the ECHC I will admit, tension, no, people becoming more competitive, yes

I am not a mod of this forum, I have a few liberties beyond that of the Accord moderator

my concern is with this board, I am afraid that hostility and animosity is going to leak from here to the track as I have seen it do before in the past

there is no hate between the competitors sponsored by Cobalt and Carbotech, this is just a falsehood generated by rumors which sucks, I am good friends with Andie and Corey is sponsored by him, yes I am biased but like Corey said in another posts I know that the Carbotech product is not crap, actually I was always satisfied with my P+ pads and still recomend them to people I feel would benifit better from them than they would a Cobalt pad

hrm, and wouldnt this be the same "animosity" that you are commenting on?

hit alt-F4, take a deep breath, step away from the computer, and you will realize its just the damn internet. If you are taking it so seriously that you can't laugh at this stuff, its time to unplug for a while.

There was a thread like kind of like this (it was about flaming) in the ITR forum a few months ago. This sort of thing will always be a problem with the internet medium because most of the social cues that we rely on in face-to-face communication are missing. Without those cues, many of our normal politeness inhibitions go right out the window.

The only thing you can really do is not stoop to the level of those who engage in flaming or excessly vitriolic discussions. Fighting fire with fire in this case only makes the fire bigger.

Your best bet is to make sure that you keep your own posts polite and civil; don't engage in name-calling or make excessively emotional replies. If you get pissed off about something that someone says, don't reply right away. Wait until you're not angry about it before responding. Anything done in anger is likely to be the wrong thing. This approach will not only help keep discussions on track, it'll also make you look like the good guy while making the other guy look childish.

Finally, always keep in mind that the other guy is someone who shares your passion for motorsports. His experience/perspective/attitudes/interests may not be identical to yours, but if you ever met in person, you'd probably have a lot in common, and you could probably learn a lot from each other. I don't think anyone here is in this for the money (usually quite the opposite); it's all about having fun. Getting all upset about a discussion is the opposite of having fun. Remember why you're here, and don't let bad behavior on the part of others ruin it for you.

That's my advice for everyone. Hope it helps.

yes, I guess I am my own example

but no I will not unpplug and step away, there are things involved here that mean something to me, that might be hard for you to understand not sitting in my seat

maybe making a joke of it and saying it is just the internet is your way of pushing it aside but frankly it needs to be discussed, if you do not think so I kindly ask that your input in this thread stop at your last post

Exactaly Morgan, the crap that is going in ruining this forum plain and simple, either grow up and stop snipping at each other, or work out your differences, becuase there are more people than you guys on this forum, this used to be a place where I could learn stuff about driving, now this is place where I learn to flame better. I am a liad back guy, I let **** roll off of me and I do not take things to seriusly, but this is getting old, the wetter water thread and the invertes start thread are very good example at what needs to stop.

Normally I would agree that it's just the internet but seeing as how many people here end up in the same place many times throughout the year, it goes beyond that. For one not to be effected by the things they read here written by people they know "in the real world" you'd also have to discard e-mails or phone conversations because they are just as impersonal. The unfortunate side-effect of the popularity of the internet is that is has become a means of mass communication in our society... which means the things said here ultimately effect what we think.

Why?
Because people disagreed?

Somebody asked about watter wetter... Will - Snake Oil. Scott/Richard-Not snake oil.
Discussion ensued. Question eventually answered after valuable debate.

Inverted Starts - In my opinion inverted starts are there only to cause wrecks. (note:my opinion). It might be OK for a Spec class, but in a group where the fastest cars are 20 seconds per lap faster than the slowest, its certainly NOT OK. Then toss in that said group was formed with a charter to minimize M2M contact and it REALLY doesn't make sense.
Again, question asked and kinda answered.

The instructor trolling for feedback on his "style and teaching technique?" Well, he got some feedback didn't he? Hey, he started it himself... in at least 3 different forums.

Animosity?
So be it. People will disagree. Thats life.
The issues about decals, spec tires and series sponsorship hurt the Honda Challenge badly last year (worse than most of you will ever know) and destroyed alot of work that Karl and I had done. But it was public opinion... So be it. That public opinion had repurcussions that are still being felt. But hey... that's life.

I'll have to agree with urbanlegend. Ask anyone in person what people think of the main gurus in the Road Racing/Autocrossing forum and they will all say the same thing.

"Arrogant and rude bunch of people."

People are sometimes afraid of asking the simpliest questions because they will be bashed for it. That's not what we're supposed to be about, is it? Even if you have to answer the same question 1000 times doesn't give right to be down right mean and nasty.

If you don't want to help then leave the question for someone else who has more class to answer the question. Although you guys do know your stuff, it's your presentation that sometimes sucks. I'm glad you brought this up because I've always been wondering the same thing. It's like some people on here are too God-like to be civil to novices and newbies alike.

I don't like on the race track how everybody is so pushy and trying to pass me. Why can't they drive nicer. I don't see how novices even want to come back after their first race.

Scott, who thinks racers should be kinder and gentler...I'm very concerned at how un-civil this forum has gotten lately...what's wrong with you people....peace

I also think it would help is everyone had an open mind and realized there are different levels of truth. Snake oil, not snake oil... blah blah most of these concrete statements are mere speculation. Other people can be right, too.
On a positive note, I would just like to say I have learned immense amounts on this board and would like to thank everyone who shares the knowledge.
