Buy or make race gas???
I was wondering if you guys buy or make your own race gas?I found this link that tells you how to make it and what is needed.

I was thinking about mixing up a batch of this.If i add 3.3gallons of Xylene to my gas tank and fill the rest up with 92octane i should get an octane rating of 99.5.
FORMULA 2
Xylene
R+M/2...117
Cost...$2.75/gal
Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...94.5 Octane
20%...97.0 Octane
30%...99.5 Octane
Notes: Similar to Toulene. 12-16 ounces will only raise octane 2-3 *points*, I.e. from 92 to 92.3. Usually mixed with Toulene and advertised as *race formula*.

I didnt know that, but naw im not racing in the NHRA its just to get around town and to the tracks is all.

One thing about the Toulene, is has to be warm to be effective.
So living in alaska, you might have some issues. Formula 1 teams used to run 76%? Toulene as a fuel, with like the rest an inert gas....so basically 100%. Anyways, they ran heaters on the gas tanks that directed exhaust heat over the tank. Just FYI

thats interesting chemisty happening there. remember the normal thinking with gas, is that you want it to be as cold as possible. To bad in dont have a degree in chemistry to explain why toulene needs to be warm to have good burn properties

Here is some more info i found about making some race gas.It does mention what SuprDave says about F1 cars using it.

I still think i will give it a try,but i'll keep it in a war area and add it when i go to the track.

For most people, it's not as expensive as buying some 104, and MUCH more readily available. I have lots of GN buddies that use this, I was thinking of doing the same thing, but i'll just stick to alky/water or propane injection and have it always be there

i would also like to highly discourage anyone to try to ghetto rig this setup

VP's unleaded race gas. 100 octane comes in 55 gallon drums
76/Unocal sells 100 on the pump also in certain places.

back from the dead......
toluene vs. Xylene
114 vs. 117
any other differences? is Xylene any less heat sensitive? can you run either straight... or rather, can you have too much of either in your "mix"?

Or can you just pump the 100 octane then drive to a gas station and pump in the 91 octane?--Will it ping since the two gases aren't evenly mixed?
WHat do ya'll do?

This doesn't help much but my supra buddies run "rice" gas(as they call it), a mix of toulene/93, all the time around here. They daily drive on it and it allows them to push 22-23psi of boost + more timing and adds about 50hp to their BPU turbo set ups..
I have never run it but I have considered running it daily in my car. My main concerns is the consistancy of it. How sure can you be that you get the right mix and a quality mix every time? The price is not really an issue. Generally mixing it 30% adds about 75cents onto the price of each gallon. Meaning id be paying app. 2.25-2.50/gal. for my gas which is still alot cheaper then mixing 104 w/ 93 or running strait 100octane.
I am assuming a mix of toulene/93 would still be unleaded right?

my feeling on the mixing..... i dunno.... if i was going to the track i'ld buy race gas. for daily driving i'm going to mix. i'm generally not hard on my car daily driving so i'm sure it would have ample time to mix by the time it was stunna stompin time...
