Default opened up blown type r motor

ok i took the head off today and found that the number 2 piston has a hole in it, the sleeves are completely cracked all the way through. now for the head, the head is fawked. only thing salvagable is both of the cams and the intake manifold. the combustion chambers are completely exploded no machinist could save it not even the best.

well im gonna pick up that that 1st gen long block for 600 bux for now till i can get another b18c r motor. i was wondering if i could swap my type r cams into the b16 head? aso will the intake manifold go on with no problems? will i get a little better flow from it?

No the ITR tranny with LSD will be great. Like you said change the timing belt and water pump and while your putting in the ITR cams you might as well upgrade with the ITR valvetrain(springs, retainers) for safe higher reving.

While your changing the cams you should also change the cam seals and cam oil seals.

a B16 head is really a Type R head. only differents is the valv train and cams. and i think its little ported. so your cams will fit

b18c5 head = ported & polished b16 head with better cams. b18c5 cams will fit a b16 head, i am 100% sure of this.

nextel, do you have any pictures of the motor? do you know what happened to the engine?

no i have no pix yet, but what happened was that the #2 piston dome hit the bottom of the spark plug and the compustion chamber of teh head exploded and melted the valces in #2 combustion chamber and the #2 piston has a hole in it and the sleeves are completely cracked all teh way through.

well i will be putting in the type r cams in my b16 head but i can not reuse the valves and springs form the type r head they are not reusable. but i can reuse the4 cam seal form the cam seal from the type r motor it is still in perfect condition and it never leaked. what kind of power over the stock 160 b16 should i be expecting form puttingf the type r cams and typr r intake manifold and T/B and exhaust manifold?

Maybe the reason for you blowing up these motors is from having no rev limiter. I have a friend w/ an ITR w/ no rev limiter. He's on his 3rd motor and almost his 6th head. Put a rev limiter back on. Since he put one back on he hasn't had anymore problems and he still drives the same. Oh and it's been over an year and a half. Just my .02. If you miss shift where does your RPMs cut off at???? Think about it almost the the high RPMs of a motorcycle and you know that's not good at all. BOOM BOOM city in my book.

i never took the motor above 8300 rpms, i thought thats what the redline of a type r motor was... i thoght that teh redline of gsr and b16 motors was 7800-7900 i guess i 8300 is still too much for a "handbuilt" type r motor.... oh well now for teh downgrade to a b16. i guess now ill just get that b16 for 600 bux and buidl iot then turbo it later. i just need a running motor now so i can get back and forth to work later i can build it and turbo it. what do u guys think about that?

the si redline is 8200 or 8300 ...my bro's stock one goes that high then cuts. for the type R i think it was 8500 or 8600 either way at 8300 u should have not blowin ur motor. thats wierd, i thought u missshifted and took it to like 9500 or something but anyway good luck with the b16

ah ok i see what u mean. so one cam has the spot for the distributor and the other has the spot where the cam seal goes. so both only go one way . thanx for the info man

I think what you ment to say is that they both come from the same casting, the R head just has some better port work, and a more aggresive valve train.
