You still depress the clutch (not 100% to the floor),your just not lifting off the gas. This usually requires having a good aftermarket clutch. . WHEN you get good at it you get better ET's. Untill then you hurt trannys, Over rev the motor (doing who knows what to it). Pratice pratice pratice makes perfect.
Good luck,
Charlie

^^^thats a very good explaination. but just to add to it....You have to be VERY VERY quick with your clutch foot and shifting. Very fast! the faster you are....the less you over rev the crap outta your motor!

I will add that I usually only do it from 2nd gear up, and it is best to practice from 3rd to 4th til you get QUICK

My opinnion is to be efficient when shifting. Powershifting is somewhat faster, but is it worth beating up your synchros? You can be a fast efficient shifter and still attain the same e.t's.

From what I've noticed, when I power shift, my RPM's only jump from 200 - 400 RPM. Would that be quick or can it be done quicker? At what point are you over reving?

That seems to be quick, depending on how fast your engine is revving. By over-revving they mean hitting the limiter or spinning the rpm's up to high, which can cause serious internal damage. On high power cars, in my experience with RWD, you don't want to powershift as the tires break loose and you start to drift towards the wall or your opponent!!! Not the ideal thing at 100mph+!!!!

No power shifting on my turbo car. I have enough problem getting off the throttle fast enough when the tires break loose in first!

power shifting is basically when u are about to shift.. u keep ur foot on the gas pedal... maybe lift a tiny bit.. and u depress the clutch pedal and change gears really fast.

i wouldnt recommend doing it shifting from 1st to 2nd.. u will blow the syncros. i usualy do it shifting from 2nd to 3rd (lift off gas pedal a tiny bit) and going from 3rd to 4th (no lift at all). the 2nd to 3rd is kinda tricky at 1st... i missed it alot when i 1st tried, but 3rd to 4th is really easy.. its just straight back!

id only do it when u REALLY NEED to. its not worth putting unessesary abuse/ware on ur tranny when u dont need to. only do it at the drag strip.

when i owned my honda i would powershift it all the time. I never lift, escepically in a race. You just keep your foot to the floor and shift the bitch. But for street cars i would limit powershifting because it does take a toll on your transmission.
So use it only when you need to.

Depend's how good the driver is to how much you will gain out of it. If you just got a built motor in your car and havent had much wheel time on a fast car don't try it, you will probably hurt the syncros 1st or spin out if it isn't a decent street.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't Speedshifting is when you use the clutch without lifting and powershifting is when you don't use the clutch at all and just jam it in gear while the throttle's buried?
